Bought a RTV1140 with worksite tires because I'll never drive in the mud.:ashamed: Well, I drove on a old logging road on the side of a mountain yesterday that I had cleared with my new Rotary mower. Yep, it had rained almost all day. Guess what, got in a steep washed rut in slippery wet dirt (mud) and it wouldn't pull forward. As I backed up the RTV kept sliding toward the down side of the mountain towards the wooded drop off. Walked back home, got BX25 and chain. Pulled the back end up the hill side and nephew drove it out. Also didn't get a winch when I bought RTV since I had no need for one.
Now I've decided that even though I won't get into that situation again just like I wasn't going to this time I want/need a winch. I'm thinking of 3000 to 4000 lb capacity after consulting with brother in law who has years of experience with ATV and UTV's.
Those of you Kubota RTV owners with winches please help with info concerning yours, attachment plate and brand you have and recommendations of for or against the one you have and why. I don't want to pay a large amount for a high priced Brand name. Brother in law said he'd had no brands perform for him as well as name brand ones. Need info for sure about mounting plate.
Thanks for your help.

You saying the others wouldn't do any pulling or just didn't work?

I have an RTV900 and put a 3,000 lb winch from Harbor Freight on it with excellent results. I have dragged trees, boulders, and my sorry butt all over NW PA with it and it is working great. I do recommend replacing the steel cable with synthetic line to spare your hands...

The installation is critical for good performance! I bought oversized cable for the connections between the winch, relay, and battery. Voltage drop increases heat in the motor and reduces your pulling capacity.

I am very happy with the HF winch.

May try some grafts myself, now. Thanks for the video.
Can you You Tube your winch, model number and info on where you bought mounting plate. I only need a winch for that rare emergency so I don't want to get to deep into money on it. Thanks.
Anyone else have info on mounting plate?

Try these!

Powerwerx: Online Shopping for Anderson Power Products including Powerpoles, Wire & Cable, Adapter Cables, Powerpole Power Splitters, West Mountain Radio RIGrunner & more

I have them on my RTV, Tractor and Plow Truck to connect my winch. I have my winch mounted on a receiver bar that I insert into the towing hitch on all three. The connector plugs into all three.

I have a 4,000 Warn for my RTV1100.

Haven't had to use it, yet, but like the idea of front and rear mount.

Mine is just on the front.

Make it fit any way you can, but leave it out front as much as possible so you can get the cable back on the drum properly or it will jam up. Good access when re-winding on the cable helps keep things lined up.

I cut my 50' cable in half so 25' will not get jammed as easily. Plus 25' feet of pull is enough to warm up any winch and the break to re-rope gives it time to cool.

My rule of thumb is winch should pull twice the weight of vehicle. 2000lb vehicle requires 4000lb winch minimum.

Thanks for info.
I had been pondering the idea of getting a mounting plate that would fit in the 2" Reece Hitch so I could use it on front, back or leave it in the garage. After my post this morning I went searching for a Reese hitch mounting plate. Advance Auto has one for about $105 and I have the codes from Fatwallet for $30 off $100 purchase so one from Advance would be about $80 with tax and free shipping over $75.
Then went to Harbor Freight and found one with up to 9000# capacity for $49 and with the 20% off coupon that's in every Car magazine and Popular Mechanics mag it will be $40 plus tax and my daughter can pick it up tomorrow when she goes by Harbor Freight in Lexington.
OK now the winch. Advance Auto has one 3000 lb 2 year warranty for $99 less the $30 off $100 code (ES123 or A123)so $70 plus a couple of bottles of gear oil put it over $100 and then free shipping for over $75. Winch and gear oil are ordered and mounting plate should be picked up tomorrow.
