One thing I have found with off road lights, be they flood, spot or work, is that there is a big quality difference in the cheap ones you get at places like TSC and the auto parts stores and the sealed beam style. Not just the housing, but especially in the bulbs.
After going through my share of cheap lights, I finally figured something out. Most of the cheap lights use an “H3” style bulb that can be replaced when it goes out. Because of the way it is designed, the entire bulb assembly is not sealed like most of the stock automotive lights are. This is one reason they wear out so quickly.
Some years ago, I started buying my work style flood lights from KC HiLights. You know, the folks who make off road lights. Although they sell the low end H3 type, they have a series of lights that use a sealed beam assembly which comes with a 23 year warranty by the way. The assembly is sealed much like the older style automotive lights.
I’ve used their 4” round trapezoid pattern, 60 Watt, work lights on log splitters, tractors and trailers. Yes they are expensive, but the quality is so much better than the $10 variety with plastic housings. You install them once and they work forever. With the H3 style bulb, you’ll be messing around with it after a couple of years when the corrosion starts to set in.
