thank you! I have spoken to the local dealer who sold me the 2210 and he is giving me a blank look.....doesn't have any idea how to make the conversion for me. so, I am going to show him some photos and tell him about the instructions I have gotten from others. It doesn't sound all that complicated. I got spoiled to the seat on the old mower and found the seat on the 2210 to be very uncomfortable.....both because of the low back and the hard ride. (whine, whine, whine.....as they say)
anyway, I would appreciate hearing from you on how your conversion goes.

I hadn't noticed the ride to be particularly harsh. But then I've never owned such a nice piece of equipment before. My last mowing machine was a Ford/Jacobsen LGT145 with hydro, 14hp kohler, and very rough ride. Until I learned to let the air out of the tires... My 2210 with HDAP tires gave a "bouncy" ride at first. Then I realized I didn't need the front tires pumped up to max pressure for mowing. I run the fronts at 15 psi, Rides fine now. maybe when I win the lottery I'll upgrade the seat... no wait, the whole tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Buckie,
Sorry for the delay. The X series seat will fit right on. They will take longer getting it out of the box than putting it on the tractor. The only problem is with the seat safety switch underneath the seat. The switch of of the 2210 won't fit on the X series. I think the switch that is made for the X series might fit the wiring harness that is on the tractor. Since I have kids that might someday use it, i don't want to disconnect it. The X series seat looks much nicer and fits the tractor better than the stock seat. Good luck.

It's Done!! Hooray. the seat on my 2210 is now an X-series seat! Biggest problem was getting the angle of the seat right without interfering with the cut-off switch mechanism. Finally got it set right. The seat is a bit higher because of the spring suspension, but that's no big deal....and it is infinitely more comfortable. JD, are you listening??????
Total cost: Parts, less than $200, plus about four hours labor. Those 2210 owners who don't like the low back, brick-hard seats on your tractor definitely ought to consider conversion to an X-series seat.
thanks to everyone for the advice, pictures and help!!

Hey Buckie
It sounds like you went ahead and put on the X-series suspension also. Did it use the same mounting holes as the original seat and does it go back as far as the original? What did they do to get the angle right? I have long legs so don't want to lose that.

hi. yes, i put on the x-series suspension with those big springs. The seat itself goes back just as far, no problem at all. It does sit higher up, vertically, than the other seat because of the suspension being in place between the body of the tractor and the seat base. New holes had to be drilled but it was not very difficult. As to the angle of the seat, on the front part of the seat itself, underneath, there is a frame with several holes in it. A bar runs horizonitally through those holes and is attached with a pin. You can pull the pins, pull out the bar, and insert it into different holes on the seat frame. The end result is that the front of the seat base tilts further down, or further up, depending on what you want. I have short legs, so I needed to seat base to tilt down a bit. You will have no problem at all with long legs. The x-series seat, being high backed, is also more comfortable for me and it does not interfer, in any way, with turning around to see what is going on with rear implements. Hope this helps. If you want, I can take some photos of the conversion and post here.

I would love to see pictures too.
I am yet to get over to JD and price a seat off the X595SE.
Those arm-rests might save my back when I am not slouching over but if the price is what I would expect... I will be doing without the SE seat. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Lets see those pictures. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I priced the X585 regular seat on JD parts and came up with
Suspension- $110
Seat- $100.00
Bumpers- $2.30
Switch- $4.50
Total $216.00

There are aftermarket seats (would require some engineering to mount) from Northern that are almost as much as this X-series seat but not in JD yellow. So if I do this I would spend the extra bucks for the JD. I did try to price the SE seat but came up with some outrageous price of $800.00 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
