I'm wanting to buy an equipment trailer at least a 14k. i actually like the design and thought process behind the gatormade mini gooseneck.
i have seen my mini excavator come off a deck over gooseneck trailer both forewards and backwards and it was rough either way so i'm actually looking for a trailer with the tires on the outside of the deck so the deck wouls be lower also hope to be haulin cars at some time to make some extra money. right now i have a 98 ck3500 but tryin to get a dump truck on the road so i will be pulling with both then.

Most trailer manufacturers offer the GN as an option on their lowboy equipment trailers.

Example: the PJ Multideck equipment trailer line

PJ Trailers - MultiDeck Equipment (MD)

Typically there is 82-83" deck width determined by the fenders. OK for hauling cars. What's the width of your mini-excavator?

GN trailers look cool, and manuver better, but for a 14K trlr. I think it's a waste. Particulary with a 1 ton (your avatar) towing unit. Keep in mind that if you get a dump tk. the GN is out. I've got both and that's just my opinion. As for a trlr. with the deck between the wheels. Are you saying that you have flipped your mini ex when loading?

What is point of the "mini gooseneck"?

I've never seen a gooseneck on a dump truck ? Not saying it's not done, just never see it.

It can be done. I have seen it done several times. Sides of a one ton dump are not usually that tall.

I got one on a f450 dump that I built. It's a dumping stakebed with a hatch that is remove to expose the frame mounted GN ball.

Living only about 45 minutes from Gatermade (and having read some of the horror stories), I drove by the plant to look at the dump trailers one day. They only had some bumper pull dumps and I was not impressed.

Anyway, I asked the sales person about the mini-gooseneck. Maybe I was getting it but I did not pick up on any apparent sale points. But, I took a look anyway after he drove off.

With the right tow vehicle, I think the design would be easy to live with. Plenty stout construction, dual jacks tying the neck and trailer together. Lots of ground clearence. I would want to compare the added weight to a conventional design.

So, who wants to be the first to buy one and report back? Gunnark?

In my state, and locally, folks are getting pulled over and nailed for driving a pickup pulling a trailer IF the sum of the GVWRs exceeds 26000. So a 14k GN and a 12k GVWR tow truck would put you into class A CDL territory. Just something to consider.

I greatly dislike GN or 5th wheel trailers. Tough to back up and turn tight around obstacles unless your work area is huge and wide open.

Bumper pull is great. I own a 10k rated car hauler style trailer with a low deck between the wheels as you describe. My last weird load was a 3 ton vibratory roller loaded and unloaded in the rain on steel ramps. I did NOT want that trailer deck any higher. It felt like I was going to slip off the ramps.

I don't get the mini-gooseneck thing either. Is it just a clearance thing? It offers none of the benefits of a "real" GN and looks kind of heavy.

I would think if you are having trouble with the excavator falling off the trailer, it needs to be tied down better, right?
