Wanting to buy an equipment trailer

/ Wanting to buy an equipment trailer #21
I'm wanting to buy an equipment trailer at least a 14k. i actually like the design and thought process behind the gatormade mini gooseneck.
i have seen my mini excavator come off a deck over gooseneck trailer both forewards and backwards and it was rough either way so i'm actually looking for a trailer with the tires on the outside of the deck so the deck wouls be lower also hope to be haulin cars at some time to make some extra money. right now i have a 98 ck3500 but tryin to get a dump truck on the road so i will be pulling with both then.

For a heavy trailer I have owned two Hudson Brothers trailers. By far the best trailer for the money for heavy work in my experience. Hudson Brothers Trailer Manufacturers, Inc, Indian Trail, NC

Thinking that the tax break was part of the marketing sceme, I did ask Gatormade about that. The "mini-gooseneck" does not quality for the tax break in KY.

I was told the exact opposite by them 2 years ago or so. I guess it all comes down to the person you are dealing with at the BMV. Thats were we pay our taxes in Indiana on vehicles. I am sure you get 10 different answers there also if you ask 10 different people. I just keep going back till I get the answer I want.:D

yhea that is true would only be able to pull the gn with my pu but it's also got a 4"-6" lift under it so not sure how many gns i'd find that would accomadate that.
as for the mini gooseneck design bp it would have the stability of the gn trailer but for me the ability to pull behind my pu or a dump truck when ever i get mine on the road. trying to take 2 and make 1. the trailer has excangable couplers so i could use either 2 5/16" or pintle hook plus when dump truck gets on road puttin pintle on pu

Why/how would the mini gooseneck have anymore stability?

In my opinion with the tounge being designed like the gn just lower for a bp it would still have the stabily of the gn. I know it wouldn't distribute the weight to the truck like a gn but i'm looking at the dual towing rigs issue too.

Am I seeing that picture right? Is that a bumper pull trailer made in the style of a gooseneck?

Yep. I would not think it has any more stability or ground clearance. Looks like just a gemmic to me. I have seen them in person at the Gator Made dealership and dealt with trailers for over 20 years. I see no benefit to it other than taxes. Looks heavy to me also compared to a standard trailer of comparable capacity.

The only advantage I see in that trailer is the stronger landing gear. Otherwise it is just an expensive bumper pull.

.

I greatly dislike GN or 5th wheel trailers. Tough to back up and turn tight around obstacles unless your work area is huge and wide open.

Bumper pull is great. I own a 10k rated car hauler style trailer with a low deck between the wheels as you describe. My last weird load was a 3 ton vibratory roller loaded and unloaded in the rain on steel ramps. I did NOT want that trailer deck any higher. It felt like I was going to slip off the ramps.

???. I have both the gooseneck and bumper pull trailer, and the gooseneck is by far EASIER to maneuver and back up. I would agree that the bumper pull tends to track straighter when making tight forward moving turns like a tight intersection. As for u turns and backing id take a gooseneck any day of the week.

Its a matter of getting used to what you have, I do prefer a GN than BP, but it depends on what needs to be done, On light stuff I use the 16' trailer, its easer to hook up and I get better milage with it. The GN I can load it down until I run out of room. On a empty 16' BP trailer I can not see it pulling it with my truck mirriors going straight down the road, I use this flags from Wal-Mart on a fiberglass stick and bungee cord it to the rear of the trailer, most of the flag is gone but I can still see the white fiberglass stick, and makes it easer for backing up.:)
