Warehouse racking for wood stacking?

Ive switched to 1000L totes and find them better than using pallets and pallet racks for firewood.

Dont throw away the liners. Cut the tops about 4 inches down to make lids. Drill 3-4inch diameter holes in the bottom of the liner for air flow and drainage and remove the tote valves. Put the lids back on for keeping the rain out. Drill some 3/8 holes in the lids and liners an use zip ties to keep the wind from blowing the lids away.

You can now stack these totes 3 high outdoors and your wood stays dry. Grab one tote at a time with your tractor forks and bring it to the house when you need firewood. No more lean to痴 or wood shelters required.

Just toss your wood in the totes randomly and you never have to stack wood again. It痴 better to keep the wood random because you get better air flow and the wood stays dry better than neatly stacked wood.

Your biggest problems will be finding totes that didnt contain hazardous materials and the bases of the totes freezing onto the ground.

I agree with everything you said, and it sounds low effort with dry organized movable firewood as payoff.

I was going to say that biggest problem is finding totes (cheap), but once you avoid having to build a shed paying a few extra bucks for tote doesn't sound outrageous.

I am fairly invested into pallets and shed now, and shed holds enough firewood for current needs, but I do recommend others follow your advice.

I’ve tried a few ways to keep my firewood dry and stacked, but using warehouse racking honestly made things much easier for me than wood structures. I had some old pallet racking that I picked up from a local warehouse, and it’s been outside for a few years now. As long as I set the racking up with some kind of cover or roof, I barely see any rust at all. It’s also surprisingly simple to move things around with a tractor, which helps a lot when I want to reorganize or grab wood in winter.

If you’re still hunting for racks, you might have better luck going the new or refurbished route instead of just scouring classified ads, especially if you’re in a more remote area. There are Canadian options for warehouse racking systems(Leading Warehouse Storage & Pallet Racks Provider in Canada) with plenty of choices for different weights and configurations, plus they’re made to last through tough weather. I found some info here about heavy duty storage racks for all sorts of warehouse and firewood setups.
