No:
He should be able to operate/use /run the tractor with out such activity melting the hood.

JD owes him a new hood under warranty.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I think you misunderstood what I was saying.

I hope you get your new hood.

Thanks to everyone who has read this thread and those that took the time to reply. There are still no answers.

As I mentioned in my original post, my 2320 is a 2006. It had 16 hours on it when purchased and was in showroom condition. But, it's out of the normal warranty period. I have been in contact with the dealer. They are talking to Deere about sending me a replacement piece, based on the literal fact that this machine hasn't been used enough to even break it in. I will let them do their thing before I step into it and start talking to Deere myself. I can't help but think that the issue is a part problem.

I would be fairly comfortable saying that heat caused that, but, somewhat indirectly. It appears that is some sort of union between two separate pieces, a glue joint perhaps? I would guess that the glue joint failed, for whatever reason, and at that point the heat caused the plastic piece to warp. Without the “structure” provided by joining the two pieces, the plastic would warp fairly easily from the heat of the exhaust

I just took delivery today of a brand new 2320. It better not start doing that or I'll go and get my 4110 back.

If it's like the 2520, the muffler is right behind that spot and there should be a heat shield stuck to the inside that looks like a piece of aluminum foil.

MMagis

I went out an popped the hood of my 06 2320 (more like almost 300 hours on mine though). On mine, there is no heat shield where your damage occurred. I do have a heat shield that runs vertically from where the exhaust pipe comes out of the front of the muffler down to where the exhaust exits at the front left bottom of the engine compartment.

Well guys, after 11 months, too many telephone calls, texts and emails to remember, the warped hood piece has been replaced. The warping was evidently a rare material defect in the plastic. Interestingly, it was not John Deere who came through with the replacement parts. Rather it was the dealer from whom I purchased it. This wasn't even a blip on JD's radar, it wasn't a "fatal" in any way, but it looked pretty bad.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the attention, concern and service provided by Bader & Sons in Central Michigan. Although i live in central Illinois, with 5 JD dealers within 40 miles, I bought my 2006 JD 2320 from Paul
Bader. It was exactly what I had been looking for for over a year.

Earlier in this thread is the history and pics
I just wanted to tell everyone how happy I am about getting the parts. I will put it on. The warped piece slowly got worse over time. The hotter the weather the more it would warp back and forth.

I did learn that there is supposed to be a shielded piece of insulation between the muffler and side hood piece.

My hat is off to Mr. Bader, Bob in service and everyone else who got the pieces replaced. They are great!

i went out and cheked my 2320 and noticed a little discoloration in the plastic 45hrs so to be safe i cut a piece of stovepipe duct and hosed clamped it to the muffler 4 a heat shield.
