Just don't asked your kids to fill the tractor up w/ gas.. cause that's what they'll do! The fuel gage not working was the first problem I had on my tractor.. only worked a short while.. told the dealer about it once.. still not working today. I ran out fuel once.. was a mile or so away from the house. Walking back required wading knee deep through a stream.. you really get a good feel for the weight of 5 gallons of diesal when you have to haul it on your back. Since then.. I check the level or top off before I head out. I've also almost finished a refurbished 250 gal diesal tank w/ 12 volt pump, fuel gauge & filter.. set up on 2200lb wagon gear to make it mobile. Hope it all works out..
