Hi everyone.
My head is spinning here from all the information.
I have a horse farm that I need to do some loader work, mow 5 acres with a finish mower, drag a horse arena, and plow some snow with the rear blade.
I would like to stay under 25K for a tractor with fel.
I was looking at a Deere 4105, but when I compare it with a Kubota MX5100, the 5100 seems like a much better buy.
I haven't begun looking at New Hollands yet, but was curious if anyone else was looking at a 5100 and got a NH instead.
If so, which model?

Dave,

MX5100 is an excellent stout utility machine. The loader has sub frame that tied to the rear axle that makes it pretty stout. You can do square bailing with it at the very least. It is not huge but quite a bit bigger than a 30-40ish HP compact machine that might be suggested for your tasks. I have looked at it and like it quite a bit. price wise it is very competitive to smaller compact utility brethren.

JC,

ps. guys in Blue Forum are very open minded and tolerant:D so I'll posts a few pics of MX-5000.. not much different than 5100. I like all sheet metal as well.

Thanks JC!
Right now I'm using a Ford 2600 which is a 32HP.
One of the less HP tractors would have enough power for me, but I'm concerned about the tire size.
My Ford is only 2WD but has tall rear tires that make plowing snow a breeze. It seems to me that even with 4WD, I want to make sure it's a little larger tractor with bigger tires.

I am not familiar with the NH lineup, so cant help you there but I do own a MX5000, exactly the same as in JC's pics and I can tell you its one heck of a tractor for the price.

ok so mine is only up to 400 hours but its been hard labor, mostly logging now but the 1st couple hundreds were loader work, wish it had been HST then cause my left knee gave out a couple of times. Gear is fine for what I use it for now and the R4s are ideal for what I have been using it from the start.

Not a single problem with it so far and that thing starts up on glow-plugs alone down to
-30C up here in the great white north.

Dave,

Just realized your were looking for HST as MX5100 does come with gear and HST choices. Although, they call it "live independent" it does come with "independent hydraulically activated pto" with pto brake that is great. The gear model is partially synced between 3rd and 4th gear so you can shift on the fly. The new model is a bit fancier looking more "curvaceous" but underneath is the same beast. which one you fancy, Ag or industrial tire?

I looked at the 5100 shuttle shift when I was looking at tractors. It definitely is a stout tractor. I didn't like the location of the controls as well as the Case DX40 that I eventually purchased. I know what you mean about the tire size, I think I bought a little bigger tractor than I would need but the smaller ones just seemed almost not safe for hillsides being narrower and smaller tired. I think they are just fine but just didn't seem that way to me.

The Case is the same as the New Holland 3040, they also make a 3045. Overall they take up a little less space than the 5100 and the loader is really made for the tractor. The Kubota is a very good tractor, but give the New Holland a look you can't go wrong with either one. I think the Kubota is more of an economy model and a bit more HP for the money. Good luck, have fun shopping and let us know the outcome.

Given your price and HP/ size range you might want to look at the Kioti DKse or it's twin the Bobcat CT400 series. They are about the same size/weight as the MX5100 and very good values. Available in same frame and loader with 41, 45 and 50 HP for $ high teens to low twenties.

I seriously considered the MX5100, but I just found the ergonomics of the M5040 with tilt wheel and better seat to be enough to sway me to the bigger frame. When I added in the fact that it came with a rear remote and it was just that much stronger of a tractor and loader it made sense for me. But I was very impressed with the MX5100 and the MX4700 also.

no one in history has ever regretted purchasing a Kubota anything. For me, the deciding factor is the opinion i hold of the dealer with whom i'm going to be dealing with for parts/service.
