Was I out of line?

Me, too, it's just not the same and there are friends that cut their land line, and I choose not to bother communicating with them by cell phone. If they were home and picked up the phone, and we could have a real high quality conversation, fine. If not, fine.

How did Humanity survive without Cell Phones? ;)

My God! I was in a busy Wendy's/Tim Hortons Last night in the City. Busy place. I think, every last person (but me) was on their phone or had a lap top on the table. My phone stayed in the truck. I certainly don't wish this, but thought how great it would be to see the reaction, if all that just QUIT! I would just look around and say "WHAT?" What's the BIG deal?

What I have zero tolerance for is somebody who tries to talk to you, with such lousy service that you spend all of your time trying to figure out what each other is saying. If the service is that poor I just hang up. A few years ago I walked into the local general store, where a customer (?) was walking around the store with his cell phone repeatedly saying "I can hear you..." I was in there for several minutes making my purchase; and was able to determine that he was talking to some type of repairman, trying to determine the price to fix something. The vendor must have really needed the work, because as I left the store the guy was still saying "Go ahead, I can hear you..." I would have hung up long ago.

One reason, why I can't be bothered maintaining contact with cell-only friends. But the kicker! When ever someone says, can you hear me now, it's perfect, and then they go back to the message, and you can't understand them. I just hang up. Call me, when you get a REAL phone!

I have even told some sarcastically to call me when they see a pay phone.

You just dated yourself. :D Actually one reason that I got my first cell phone way back in 1996 was because I had spent the better part of a morning looking for a pay phone. The principal reason though, was the hot July day when I got back to my truck, only to discover that somebody had dumped 2 loads of gravel, trapping me on the wrong side on a dead end road.

For those like us that only have landlines and ADSL connections with NO cell service...I would like to see a regular cordless (non-cellular) phone set that has a built in router and or modem along with 2 or 3 hand sets that would work just like cell phones but the connection is through the DSL...similar to just using wi-fi mode on a cell phone...

The cordless phones that we have now work good at over 300'...it would be great to have Internet access anywhere in range of the phone base...

It wasn't that long ago, I still had a pager. I don't miss, trying to find a pay phone.

I dont answer the phone because it's alway for my wife or telemarketer, but the tele's only get one call then that number is blocked, new phone new feature. The new phone I bought last Christmas for my wife that she didn't really care for, but she finally hooked it up back in May, I think she blocked so many numbers this past summer that the tele's are hardly calling anymore.

^^^^^
You're lucky. I block and they just use another one. Oftentimes it's spoofed from a local number, I don't know how they get away with that. The NRA is one of the worst, sometimes I wish that I wasn't a member.
That is a nice feature though, I have one and bought another for my mother. It took me a while to figure out how to shut off that annoying "talking ID", and still haven't been able to when the call is coming through my cell phone.

On the same level of worthless as a landline when youæ±*e outside?

In an emergency situation where medical attention is needed to come to you, I'd much rather call from a landline than a cell phone.

Knowing people in todays society, I can imagine half of them if calling from their cell phone would call 911, tell them they need medical help, then hang up without giving the call center their address because everyone knows a smart phone has GPS which tells the call center where you're located at.

What to Know Before Calling 911 on a Cell Phone
