I did talk to a Ferrari dealer last year, and recall they were considerably more expensive compared to a similarly equipped PT. I recall a 26hp Ferrari was more than a PT-1460, but I was not accounting for shipping then so I'll take another look, or maybe I can find a used one locally. I sent an email to the Ferrari dealer again today. Also, the Ferrari does not have quick attach - although low COG and articulated, it has PTO and 3pt which for some things like road grading could be beneficial. They also have reversible steering columns which is very nice, and most of all it sounds much cooler (to anyone outside this forum at least) to say I drive a Ferrari. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

How does a MultiOne line price compared to PT? Guess I'd have the same shipping issue there.

Fuel prices are up across the board. This is something one will have to live with. You buy a tractor locally and the shipping price for them will be included in the price. With PowerTrac it is seperated out so you can see the impact.
You are buying for the long run, get the machine that you want and need.

$4500, wow! And I was worried about $1000 to Boston.

For that price, if you have the time, how about 1) buy a new 10000lb trailer in via internet, 2) buy a used Ford 350 diesel equivalent via ebay in VA or NC or KT or WV, 3) buy a cheap fare to wherever your truck is, 3) use #2 to drive #1 to Taswell, pick up the PT and head west. 4) sell all above except PT once you get home. I'd imagine the added depreciation on the truck and trailer would be minimal with about 2500 miles of wear. Hey, with a 20ft trailer maybe you could pick up two PTs or transport someone's accessories for a charge.

$4500 seems awfully high. There also seem to be pickup truck/trailer owners in my neck of the woods who are willing to drive just about anywhere for $1.50/loaded mile. Even that would be less than $4500 from Taswell to CA.

Shipping to Seattle for me was about $1800 last November for a PT 425 and 3 pallets. I was warned about rising fuel costs. Did you get your shipping quote from PT? If you haven't gotten it directly from them then I would do that first as they might have access to better rates.

As for the shipping itself. It was quite painless. I ordered on a Monday and received my shipment by Wednesday of the following week. I convinced the Overnite guy at the terminal that he wanted to drive it off the dock (after I filled it with gas of course). I didn't want to be liable for any damage that could occur inside the terminal since it was quite packed with freight. I took over once the PT was at ground level and drove it onto the trailer. Had no problems with driving it.

The Overnite guy loaded the three pallets onto the truck using their forklift. The staff there was friendly and helpful. Everything went fine.

I recommend you take gas, tin snips, and a battery booster. I needed to use the gas. The battery was fine but others have arrived to find a dead battery. Tin snips are if you want to/need to get access to the forks that you ordered as they will probably be buried under all of the other stuff and strapped to the skid.

Best to be prepared and everything will go smoothly.

True, but the result for PTs is those close to VA get a better price. The farther you are the worse the price. Not really a good model if they want to expand their business nationwide or worldwide, especially for heavier models. They have a great product though. For brands with distributors/dealers, the shipping costs are hidden and so shared for buyers regardless of distance.

Good idea! I may look into this. Problem may be an old Ford350 on the east coast is probably rusty, and in CA is not so could be hard to sell in CA for a similar price!

distance is 3000 miles so would be $1.50*3000=$4500

Shipping quote was from PT. I also got a quote from Uhaul to drive myself for a 26' truck for $3300. Gas would be about $700-800, and a plane ticket $300, so total about the same as overnite, plus 4 days of my time. I think your weight for 425 was probably 2,000-3,000 lbs. For 1460 with implements it's more like 8,000-9,000 lbs which is likely the difference.

Well, I may still decide to buy one, but I hate to drive it off the lot and lose $4,000 in shipping plus normal new vehicle depreciation! Probably going to check out the Ferrari prices at a local dealer.

If you have a suitable truck, buy the trailer package from PT and take a two week cross country vacation. End up in Tazewell about 4-5 days before you want to get home. There are plenty of things to see across this country that would be worth spending the gas money on. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'll offer this tip again, for those considering shipping, taxes, etc.

If you pick the items up yourself, you'll have to pay VA sales tax, even if you live out of state. However, I bought a couple of attachments from them over the phone, and had someone else pick it up and haul it for me. Because I didn't pick it up myself nor have PT ship it, and I live out of state, I didn't have to pay Virginia sales tax...

That savings almost paid for the entire shipping cost to Massachusetts...

My shipper was my truck and my brother in law's trailer. It cost me about $150.00 for the hotel room and the run down from central PA and back.

Of course, gas was half the cost of what it is now... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm just lucky that I live only 7-8 hours away...
