But doesn't tearing up the ground and grooming it to perfection cause more erosion than letting grass grow?

Mine get beat up from ATV/tractor use so I make a pass on each side angled in and then one down the middle, very little grass grows in the woods here but where it does I try to leave it alone.

Gotcha on the rock rake... Good idea as I'm building a loader as I speak from an old economy setup. I had planned on using the box blade (that I don't have yet, lol) with the filled tires for weight and then make some wheel weights. I have 6 12x12x1" steel plates kicking around and they weigh roughly 35-38lbs each.

Is the rock rake worth the cost? Would you buy it again? Once I have everything leveled and graded, I'd probably never use it again

Got to play with the tilt function some this weekend. Between the snow and the rain we got, it was too wet for my turf tires, but I loved the blade. I was able to angle it down and in and "trench" a small drainage trench to my ditchline. Between yesterday and today we have gotten 4.5" of rain and although I tore my yard up, I don't have the standing water I used to have without the drainage. I tried using the blade as if it didn't have the tilt and it didn't do anything other than remove the grass layer. Now I just need it to dry up, get my box blade and loader and do some serious regarding this summer.

You will be glad this spring you did what you did. Yard will drain faster and dry up from March/April showers faster getting your (Drain install) repairs and seeding done sooner.:thumbsup:

I just sold a Ford blade that wasn't nearly as good as that one for $150. The guy that bought it told me he was glad to find it at such a good price. Made me think maybe I should have asked more for it since it sold so easy. I would say you did excellent and I would also say you could make some money off of it if you wanted to. Great find.

Reminds me of the time I tried to do a ditch for the water to drain. The tractor went straight down almost a foot until it hit a solid layer of clay. I ended up with the tractor stuck and had to winch it out manually with a come-along. I did end up with two parallel drainage ditches.....the tire tracks

The best time to do drainage ditches is when it's dry and you don't need them :laughing:
