Wasp nailed me

I was stung last weekend by one of those football shaped nest making ones (paper wasps?)

That'd be hornets, if they're black and white; yellow jackets if yellow and black.

Down here in the gulf south, hornets build aerial, football-shaped nests most of the time, and yellow jackets nest below ground or inside things (like voids between walls and such).

ahh these are the black and yellow kind ... either way ow ...

the other weird ones we had this year were blue mud daubers ... similar to thread waisted wasps but shimmery blue colour

i attached a pic showing nest/dead hornets/larvae ... was right under the bench on my deck, no wonder i got stung

ya that raid stuff works great ... just give it a light soak every 15 mins for an hr and then knock it down ... not one living after that

the first spray they were mighty p-o'd though ... should have heard the buzzing

the after bite stuff used for horse fly bites and skeeters seemed to work well and pain was gone after an hour or so

Too long to wait. Vinegar does the trick as soon as you apply it. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

This time of year especially...every insect is storing goods for winter and are very protective...( I keep bees) I bought 8 cans of wasp spray the other week...the kind that shoots and foams up right away so they can't come after you.

Neighbor of mine was helping me build a pole barn and we couldn't figure out why these wasp kept hanging around after we had sprayed every old nest that we could find. Went to move a ladder we were using and found myself staring at a bunch of eyeballs about 5 inches from my nose underneath the top step. I didn't know I could move so fast or throw a ladder so far. They do hammer you like a nail gun...bee stings are just an aggravation.
