I meant to post this last week but it just got pushed down on
the stack.... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
Two Saturdays back I had to mow. So I dropped the box
blade and was backing up to the MX6. Now the MX6 has
uses a vertical steel box as one of the supports for the
two bottom links of the TPH. The problem that I ran into is
that the box has weep holes at the bottom, good, but is open
at the top, bad.
As I was backing up I was looking over my right shoulder as
usual and just happened to notice a bunch of flying things
moving around in the support box. YIKES! There is a F.....n
wasp/hornet nest in there!!!!!!!!! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif At this point the
hitch is maybe a half inch from the mower. Another second or
so and I could have bump the MX6. Me thinks this would
have been a bad thing to do! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I was lucky that the
nest was on the right side of the MX6 instead of the left AND
that the nest was built towards the top of the box instead of
the bottom. You have to lean right over these supports to
hook up the mower and I was wearing a tank top. I REALLY
don't want to think about the pain of being stung in the arm
pit! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
So I shutdown the tractor, walked back to the truck where
I just happened to have a can of wasp/hornet killer from
my last run in with these guys. In that encounter I got stung
in the NOSE, not on, IN, the nose. I looked like WC Fields and
I was a most unhappy camper. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
I nuked the nest but I knew that some of the inhabitants had
to be out and about so I waited awhile and killed two more
that flew back to the nest, aka, the MX6.
To prevent this from happening in the future, I took two
shop rags and folded them up so that they would fit into the
top of the box support. At least this way the bugs won't be
getting in from the top. The weep holes do have me worried!

SOOOOoooooo, For you MXx owners you better check you
supports. And for the other brands I would check and see
if you have any similar hiding places.....
