I was clearing a path in the woods last Sunday afternoon when I hit a nest of Yellow Jackets. I felt pain on my neck and shoulder area, I didn't know what hit me. When I finally realized what I have done I flew, I mean flew off the tractor and ran like ..., still being stung. Went back to the house, put on my winter jacket, gloves and hat-armed with wasp spray went to take back my tractor. Spraided the .... out of the area, made a dash for the tractor, took off with the the Y.J. in hot persuit and made it out with no futher damage. I counted 11 bee stings. Something so small hurts so much.

I used to get wasps in my shutters and under my deck each and every year. They drove us crazy and when we tried some of the cheap stuff in the aerosol cans it stained the vinyl siding. For the past several years I have been using a product called Cynoff that is water soluble, doesn't stain, kills wasps, bees, yellow-jackets and all kinds of other flying insects. The residual lasts for several months even after the rains that we have been getting here in Ohio.

Yesterday I got up on my roof to put a snow cover on my satellite dish. I heard some buzzing and spotted a large wasp nest in the satellite dish mount tube. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I waited till dark and sprayed the tube with Cynoff and left it until early this morning. When I went back up to finish my cover project the wasps were all history and I didn't have to worry about the chemical softening my shingles. I swear by this stuff, I spray it everywhere. I mix it one ounce of Cynoff to a gallon of water and it goes a long, long way.

Moth balls are really toxic, especially to children. One mothball can be fatal to a small child if they eat it. They're also toxic to all critters. If you scatter them around the yard, you might try putting them in some kind of mesh container so they at least can't be eaten.

Well, I bet garbageman wasn't smiling last Sunday. I pulled pretty much the same stunt while mowing a few months ago - - see my post in the Rural Living forum. Some of those stings stayed with me for days.

OK, maybe I can smile about it now. My mother-in-law finished off one that followed me into the house, & my dog got another. I'm still trying to smile.
