Waste Oil

/ Waste Oil #21
Sorry, f/a forced air and dwh domstic hot water [from your hot water heater bath wash ect]. After being in the heating bus. for 23 yrs. ya start talking like every one knows what it is your talking about. I bought just the buner /gun for about $1500.00 & put it on a prototype combo wood oil boiler that was given to me by the comp. to evaluate. When they first came out I sold them for 5-6 yr. Most that are made now are f/a and made for car dealers ect. They are not all peaches and cream, they must be clean more ofen, water in the oil ect. But if you handy and have a lot of oil its hard to beat. I burn waste oil wood and a little propane. Most of my heat comes from the oil though. I think the new ones in f/a cost about $5000.00 ang go up from there. Hope this helps.

Thanks for educating me on alternative uses of waste oil. I incorrectly thought that the hydrocarbon chains of the oil were broken over time by heat, so that the oil no longer maintained the same lubricating properties. Sounds like the heat is not enough to break the oil down, and that the contamination is the only problem. If that is the case, I no longer understand why synthetic oils last longer as they must get contaminated too...

Yes, in this case I agree with the insurance company. To leave something like that around is irresponsible, and I wouldn't want to pay the insurance rates that it would take to underwrite that level of irresponsibility. Anyway, the oil is gone at a cost of $550Can for the testing and removal. I think it was worth it.

I let the used oil settle in a 55 gal drum and use the top in my chainsaws as bar oil , I would have to say a few phone calls and you could have had someone come out and pay you to remove it !

Nice job resurrecting a twelve year old thread Grumpy!

I seriously doubt that you could find anyone to pump, remove and then pay you for 500 gallons of waste oil of questionable vintage and mixture.

Hear back from you in 2024?
