Guys, Thanks for all the kind words, and warnings for others.
I am the son of the great man that was, Clarence Pete White. There are few who have been as great a man to as many. He was a friend to all. Helpful to all and left everyone he met with a smile. One of his saying was, "things are just as they are". He lived to 75, most do not make it that far, that healthy. He died doing what he loved, working. Better than that, he had his first day on his first new tractor and ended the day with a call to my mother telling her he loved her and was on his way home and told her how much he liked the new tractor. Unfortunately, that new tractor was one of the links in the chain that killed him on that day.
He was headed back to the truck, mower up and I would imagine riding a little faster than mowing. The tractor was delivered that weekend and had not had the bucket installed, left tire loaded or weights on the front. Those of you who mow know this causes you to use the left brake alot durring ditch mowing as the front tires have little weight on them. The police never figured out what happend but after I went to the yard to see the tractor with my brother the next day, I saw the lock was not over on the brakes. The driver said he didn't know why or how the tractor turned so quickly into him. I believe he was used to using the left brake on the tractor all day and when he saw a truck about to pass, he attempted to slow down a bit and hit the left brake, not both brakes. With the mower up and no weight up front, the tractor would have done just what the driver and the other witnesses said it did.
I sold the tractor this weekend for my mother who is still fit as a fiddle, 78 years old, she is dating a gentleman who if my father would have known him, they would have been great friends.
I said at my fathers funeral, he was the kind of many you wanted your sons to become and your daughters to mary. I have four daughters and I stand by that statement, I hope they someday marry a man as good as my father.
Drive safe, live long.
