Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

I'm using cable access at home, I love it. I too have T1 at work , so I get spoiled at the speed.

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

I use MSN because that's the only provider that has a local dial-up number. Also got a big discount on some stuff at Best Buy. I've actually been quite pleased with the service, contrary to my expectations.

( Just curious but what ISP provider does everyone use? )

www.heartoftn.net because they have reasonable 128K ISDN prices. Lacking DSL and cable, DirecPC being unsuitable (Windows only), and unable to get better than 26.6K using regular telephone dialup here, we switched to ISDN. Telco ISDN charges are not as steep in Tennessee as in the rest of the US, which helped.

For those looking for a US nationwide provider for regular dialup, take a look at http://www.copper.net at $9.95 a month.

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

Does anyone use the satalite service that Direct TV offers and if so do you have to have a local ISP provider or is the ISP included with Direct TV?

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

I use Earthlink. It is expensive at $22/month fo rdial-up, but I travel quite a bit, and they always have had a local number no matter where I have been. One special thing I did do: I never downloaded their web explorer or any of their software, so I think I bypassed their special touches that I probably wouldn't have liked anyway.

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

We use a local and it's slow and expensive but cheaper than directway. Have faster at work and usually only browse forums here anyways. Wife uses AOL trials all the time traveling for her job. Because they work great the most larger city hotels. Thanks for the heads up on cancelling before the deadline.

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

At home I use Comcast Cable.
When traveling in US and Canada I use NetZero premium. NetZero and Juno are the only ISPs that I found to have Canadian Dialup when I’m traveling there.

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

After several years of Juno/Netzero at $9.99 a month, I finally broke down and got Sprint DSL. It is nice but expensive. For dial-up, Juno/Netzero seems like one of the best deals around. I think it's still $9.99.

Also, For Homepage and free e-mail, try www.myway.com
No BS, pop-ups, ****, junk.........

Re: watch out for AOL \"free trials\"

I'd like to expand on your advise.

Don't do AOL *anything*. Not only do they have an inferior product (you are paying *extra* to see more ads) they are well known to pull these sorts of sleazy tricks.

Friends don't let friends use AOL. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
