MNI*CreditReport.com has charged my credit card $24.59 and $11.95 the past two months and i did not authorize the charges. We have not even had any contact with them about their services.

I have contacted the credit card company and waiting to hear back. A quick google search reveals that I am not the only one this has happened to..

Somewhere.. sometime.. I thought I heard you could take someone to court for unauthorized charges on a credit card. Is this true? What court do you have to use if I can?

I've had invalid charges on a Visa (local CU) and just recently MasterCard (Chase Bank). With Visa, I called my CU, they removed the charges and issued a new card. With MasterCard, they called me about some suspicious charges. While I was on the phone with them, I saw other charges (had just got my statement) and said they were not authorized. They removed them and issued a new card. With Chase, they sent me a form that listed the invalid charges that I had to sign and return.

Why would you want to take them to court?

Something like this happened to me a little over a month ago, but it wasn't for that high of an amount. I contacted my Credit Union, they had my refund posted to my account within a couple days, then issued me another credit card (debit card actually) that I received in about a week.

It's in this thread:

It's been happening a lot lately to people all over the country.

I had a couple of fraudulent charges for ten times that amount, but as others have said, the credit card company removed the charges and issued new cards with a new account number. They did sent a form asking me to sign (1) that I didn't make the charges, and (2) that I would be willing to assist in prosecuting the person who did - which I would love to do.

I read in the newspaper or onlne just recently that somebodies database was hacked and credit card info was taken. Come to think of it.. it may be an antique gun list I read it on..and the co was an ammo or parts supplier...

3 months ago, I opened my Statement and found a charge for $11,000 that I did not make from a company I've never heard of. It wasn't even tractor related...

I called my credit card company and they removed it without question and issued a new card. They would not tell me anything about the charge or the company other then they were aware of the problem.

I did question my card company because they can be quite annoying at times. It is not unusual for me to to received and early fraud warning for something as simple as buying gas/diesel more than 3 times in one day. My 34 gallon OEM Chevy Van gas tank takes about $120 to fill which means 3 card transactions with $50 dollar limit stations if the tank is empty.

Early fraud also cut me off when I was working in Austria. I notified my card company that I would be one month in Germany before I left. They froze my account because I didn't respond to 2 early warning fraud calls they left on my home answering machine, even though I let them know I would be in Europe. I charged $6,000 US in roofing material for a project I was working on in Austria and that triggered the fraud calls.

Speaking of early fraud warnings . . . I have a card on which they send me an e-mail if any charge over $300 is made. Now that seems like a good idea, except it's usually at least 2 or 3 days after the charge is made before they send the e-mail. They also send me an e-mail if any credit is issued on the card; even if it's a refund of only a dollar or two. I'm not sure what the purpose of that one is.

I know it's expensive coffee.. but? ;)

One and only one web site that is legitimate in the sense of a free credit report, no strings attached and accurate in the manner of provisions. The three primary credit reporting agencies are required by law to provide a free credit report annually to those whom request. They have chosen to use the internet as an easy access option, free of charge and no obligations. Anything beyond this is likely to have something as a stipulation (i.e. free credit report dot com... a total scam) for obtaining what they describe as free.

Take it or leave it. Jimmy crack corn...

By Consumer Protection law, you are liable a maximun amount of US $50.00, period. The legal work lies in the hands of the card issuer. You do have to identify the error, contest it, and prompt the card issuer of the circumstances. Do it all in writing and follow up with the reporting agencies to ensure the liability has been corrected.
