I am with you, I figure if I can hunt ot ATV in the cold I can suck up 20 minutes under the truck to change the oil. 20 minutes could save me $1000's in the future....

I'd love to do it myself.. and occasionally do.. If I am doing all my tractors during one day.. i may do any vehicle changes that are due as well. otherwise, I just don't have the time unfortunately.

All of my life I have done 98% of the maintenance on my vehicles but now my knees are getting so bad that getting up and down is verry difficult do I am having more work done for me. My neighbor has a "come to you" oil change and lubrication business so I now pay him to do my oil changes. He does it on my driveway while I watch. Not because I am concerned about what he is doing but just to talk.

There is a guy in the area who does the same for mechanical work and I have started using him for some work.

It is h*** to get old. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I don't mind letting someone change my oil, I just mind letting them do it without me seeing it being done. I'm too big to get under my wifes car, so I take it to a Wal mart that has racks where I can see it getting changed. I also tell them what I expect before they start.

This is the truth. I once had a female clerk at a jiffy lube tell me that sometimes, they don't even change the oil in your car. They say they did, and then change a friends oil later. This was one attached to a sears, and boy did my face turn red. I was questioning her as to why ALL my fluids were low 2 days after having a full sevice oil change there.

Live and learn. I've always changed the oil on my truck unless I was on the road. Much eisier to get under it.

I change all my own oil so I know it is done right and with proper fluids.
A friend had her oil changed by a jiffy place and her engine started rattling about 2 miles down the road, she took it back and found they had not put any oil back in it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The jiffy place just wanted to put oil in it and forget all about it. They did not know she was a lawyer /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif New factory engine for her /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You're right about the quick change places, but others aren't immune either. In 1968 I took my sisters 67 Corvette to a Chevrolet dealer. AS I watched, they drained the oil and before I could say anything refilled the crankcase with 5 qts of ATF from the overhead hose reel. Thankfully I caught it before driving off. So much for dealers.

I also had a bad experience with a quick oil change place. The last time I took the wifes van for an oil change they left the filler cap off. I didn't notice until a couple of weeks later. Went back and raised all kinds of H###. I got no real satisfaction from them. Said they would give me a free oil change when I needed it. I can't imagion going back to them. I think its the type of people that they have working these places as everytime you go back its somebody else.

Soundguy - of course the car had a oil gauge or light. Reread the post - she was a LAWYER.
