Water flowing out of expansion bottle

If this tractor was a used tractor from Japan, I have heard they drain the tractor and refill when they need to use it in cold weather. This is one of the causes of such rusty water. Without antifreeze and it's rust stop, you get a lot of rust using fresh water each time you use it.

This is a very interesting information. Now I understand why the head was so rusty. Maybe there is an explanation for draining the system such a way : winter freeze in a remote barn ! (for example Hokkaido island is very cold in winter).

Do you know that Japanese farmers used to remove the thermostat of their tractors ? I don't agree with this last practice because it causes the engine to run a a low temperature and an engine has an its own operating temperature which is not the ambient one !

You mentioned in an earlier post about finding a rusty mud in the overflow bottle. I have read reports of people here in the US, while cleaning there radiators, actually finding rice residue inside. Apparently if they had a boilover while working they would just refill from the rice paddy water.

It sounds like a joke ! But I can easily belive it. I think some Japanese farmers don't really take care of their tractors. As you maybe know, when they have around 500 hours they are qualified as "end of service". Japanese farmers have financial help from their government when buying a new agricultural tractor. That is the reason why the gray market business for used tractors and backhoes is so huge (a blessing for us north Americans and west Europeans). In France an "official" 15 year old Kubota with 5000 hours in very bad condition (when you are enough lucky to find one !) is the same price than a 5 years old, 1500 hours gray Yanmar like mine !
