I would only be doing this short term, until I could do my own pond. I have a lot of other things I have to finish before I do that, which is why i thought about doing the hauling. I know the down sides to it, but the up-sides are seat time, getting to buy a tank and getting to buy a pump and the goodies that I'd need to go with it!

I'm not sure what kind of grass I have but I plan on overseeding with something a bit more robust. I think my issue is a combination of several different things that I need to resolve, not just lack of water. Of course right now water is plentiful...

We have a 3 1/2 season creek in one of our summer pasture that supplies water to the stock in it that goes dry for 6 weeks around August. We put 6 of those square tanks like shown before on a goose neck and pipe them all together. Then we got a 12volt transfer pump from harbor freight
(Marine Utility Pump & Other 12 Volt Water Pumps - Harbor Freight Tools)
and transfer water to the tanks that way. Here in the northwest the logging companies have tanks set up like the old rail road tank used for steam locomotives that are feed by springs and they let us use one that's close by to fill our "water truck" about 1700+ gallons. I do not know if that pump would be strong enough for a sprinkler system cause we are only pumping to atmosphere. We run it off the trailer hitch plug. :D

I'm not a huge fan of mowing, but it does at least give me a little "thinking time."

Another 2 cents. I'd let the lawn go until the catch pond was put in. Then mount a tank up high to fill as the rain comes. At one place we put a 3.000 gal. tank 14' up in the air. That gave us about the same pressure as most pressure tanks are set at.

"It is what we learn after we think we know it all, that counts."

1" of rain on 1 acre = 27500 gallons of water -
forget hauling water - fertilize a little better, plant a different type or grass, or learn to like brown.

This should have been the last post of this thread ;) You will probably do more harm than good by not letting it go dormant.

Did you check on the towing limits? I also have a L3400 and I just purchased 40 acres. I spotted a 1,000 gallon trailer that I thought I could use, but if I can only pull 250 gallons, then it would be a waste to get it. This would also be temporary until we got a well drilled.
