FWIW: For most models, you can get a natural gas hot water heater readily and then add the propane orifice after the fact, e.g.

Some of the newer flammable vapor resistant models can be a bit of an involved process to get into the burner/orifice.

Just go to a local HVAC supply warehouse where plumbers and contractors buy. Most will still sell retail and they have about anything in stock. Don’t go to Home Depot.

I didn't even know about fiberglass tanks. I'm gonna check into them. I hope I can find one that is propane fired. If I can only find electric then I would need to run wire over 60 feet to power it. That will be expensive. But I really like the idea of a tank that won't corrode.

I am looking at tankless water heaters now. I can pretty easily run a larger pipe for the propane if need be. I will update this search soon. This month or next month I will be making the purchase. I just had to spend $2500.00 that I didn't plan for so it will probably be next month that I buy the heater. Anyway, thanks for asking, I should have posted something already.

For 20 or so years gas water heaters here have a C/O detector and everyone eventually goes bad.

Some are stand alone and others integral with the thermopile.

Are sealed combustion gas water heaters with CO shutdown nationwide?

Add me down for another tankless water heater. We've had ours for 13 years. Never a failure, never a shortage of hot water. It uses a fraction of the amount of propane our old tank type heater used. Hot water on demand and endless supply.

The only change I'd make is to add an additonal small one for under the kitchen sink, which is the farthest from the central unit. Spouse wants instant hot water when she turns that faucet on! She's not tollerent of waiting for the hot water to make the journey across the house.
