I had the same problem several years ago,, water in a diesel 55 gals plastic storage tank,, it does set up about 4 feet off the ground,, I put a block of wood 2x4 under one side and on the other side I drilled a 1/8" hole in it let the water drain out.. took a wood screw and screwed it in.. it still there and doesn't leak,, I was going to replace it with a valve but never got around to it.. Another way would be to put the bung in with a valve or faucet flip it upside, let the water settle and drain it out. Then I would put some fuel treatment for water in there. (After it has been flipped right side up of course. lol) Put pump and new filter back on, and pump away.

Good ideas. I'll try the drill pump first but I like the small screw hole idea.

Unlike the screw hole idea.

It's good to know what happens when those filters get loaded with water, I've had one on my tank for several years and haven't changed it.

My vote is for raising the pickup tube and pumping out the good fuel.

My guess would be that much water probably came from the supplier. We had one gas station that gave our Jeep problems running a couple of times. I suspect water in their tank. We don't get gas there any more.

I wouldn't trust additives to take care of the water, it will still be there, just in a different form.

I would also be wary that the moisture will cause bacteria growth as the weather warms. It's my understanding that it's the moisture that causes the bacteria. Of course, your filter should take care of that, but you definitely want to get it as pure as possible.

That's the advantage of the big 250 gallon cubes: they come with a bottom drain valve :)
