Does anyone have any knowledge or method for removing water from diesel fuel other than buying a large capacity tank and filter. I've tried all the local outlets using "red" fuel and get water in all of them.

The fuel will float on top of the water if it is not agitated. I would let stand, siphon the top layer of fuel and separate from the original container. I would only do this if this is allot of fresh fuel that is slightly contaminated.

Any container with a spigot on the bottom will drain off the water if allowed to sit long enough. I use a 55 gal. drum and pump off the top.

My last load of fuel from a big supplier was loaded with water.
I use power service as well as biocides for tank treatments.
My suggestion is to have a water drain tap at the lowest point of the tank if you do bulk storage, and use a filtered breather as oposed to an 'open' tank breather.
For in the can / in tank water.. if it is a large amount, I'd crack a fuel line and purge it.
Many tractors have both sediment bowls with water dains, and some even have fuel filters with water drains... make use of them.. often!

I find it easiest to syphon off the water. use a steel tube (3/8' line) to get to the bottom of the tank, with a rubber hose attached to that. Tip the tank a little if necessary. Just run the syphon until you get clear diesel, and you're back in business. Add a little gas line antifreeze for insurance if you like.
