Hmm.. never heard of calcium nitrate? ( CNO3 ?? )..

AFAIK.. CACL was the 'gold' standard in times long past..

Got any info on this calcium nitrate???

HHmmmm,
Calcium nitrate..... any relationship to Potassium Nitrate..... maybe not, think they used that stuff to blow up the Federal building...

;)

Probably more like 'fertalizer'.. I.E. ammonium nitrate.. etc.. if you are talking explosives...

Yep your right Chris, not as smart as I thought I was ;)

Although we did have some fun with the potassium nitrate when I was a kid ! It made for great smoke bombs ! :)

Heck.. just add some charcoal powder.. and sulfur to the potasium nitrate and you can have a blast!

Ok,Ok, a chemist I'm not! I must have meant to say calcium chloride and someone else mentioned rim guard which was the other material I couldn't think of the name of.
I knew what I meant to say whether anyone else did or not.;)

It's OK, everybody knew what you meant too.
They're just having some fun with you and I see you took it well. I always get nailed for saying something like that so I'm used to the wiseguys who love to razz me about it.:)
To get them back, just look for their grammar and spelling. That always works.:D

If you get a chance, tell us more about that good looking 60 hp tractor in your avatar and how you use it. It looks like a real workhorse.

Dear Rob,

It is in fact a real workhorse. Besides, if it was not for the fuel consumption you would feel like driving a 80HP turbocharged tractor.
You can visit ArmaTrac for more information.

Hmm, might we be thinking of calcium nitrate in fertilizer?

Calcium nitrate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Calcium nitrate, also called Norgessalpeter (Norwegian saltpeter) and Kalksalpeter, is a white coloured soluble salt with the formula Ca(NO3)2.4H2O. It is deliquescent, readily absorbing moisture from the air. It is used as a reagent, a pyrotechnic and a fertilizer. The fertilizer grade (15.5-0-0 + 19% Ca) is popular in the greenhouse and hydroponics trades; it has some ammonium nitrate and water incorporated in the molecular structure as 5Ca(NO3)2.NH4NO3.10H2O. There also is a formulation without ammonia: Ca(NO3)2.3H2O (12.8-0-0 + 18.3%Ca).

Norgessalpeter was the first nitrogen fertilizer compound to be manufactured. Production began at Notodden, Norway in 1905. Most of the world's calcium nitrate is now made in Porsgrunn.

Nitrocalcite is a form of calcium nitrate which occurs in nature. It occasionally forms an efflorescence where manure contacts concrete or limestone in a dry environment, as in stables or caverns.

See I'm not so stupid - there really is a calcium nitrate.:p I knew that.;)
