Water line leaking

I got my water bill for my "farm" last month and it was a little higher than I expected. When I was out there today I looked at the meter and notice that it was spinning ever so slightly. I can't see any visible presence of a leak but I figure it is probably near one of my woodford hydrants. Broken PVC, didn't tighten the threads correctly, etc.


My question, on these hydrants, Woodford Y34, is it possible for the valve to leak and just drain.

Yes, very possible.

Try using a 'poor mans stethoscope' to 'hear' which valve is leaking.

(("poor mans stethoscope", I find that a long screw driver works best for me.))

Assuming there is a shutoff valve at the meter, I would try closing it, just to make sure it isn't the meter, before I went "dowsing" for the leak.

I turned off the meter for the winter this afternoon.
