1000 gallon tank would give you a 50 day supply of water?
How are you gonna stop it from growing unwanted "stuff"? Will the critters like chlorine(bleach) with breakfast? (My horses won't touch city water, but they will drink out of a swamp. Go figure)
If I was going to bury a tank in the northeast I would bury it in the barn, as close to the center as possible. My very drafty uninsulated pole barn rarely freezes more than 3 ft into the barn. Maybe under the tack/grain room floor with an access "manhole" of sorts.
On a different "tack"..
Is it a better shot to the barn from your well head? You could always tap in there somewhere with a tee.
