If you go to a plumbing supply you can get a compression fitting that will connect the two dissimilar pipes. The HDPE should have a bushing inside it to keep it from deforming and leaking latter which comes with the fitting.
Hose barbs and clamps is how it is done if you're ready to dig up in the future to fix the leak.
