I have got a dumb question. I am thinking of installing an automatic waterer. It is small, about the size of a plate, and only one animal can drink at a time. It is connected to water line and never goes dry. That is it fills up as quickly as it is emptied. How many goats can I water with this? I mean there is an unlimited supply of water, but are there any issues with only one being able to drink at a time? I have always used troughs with automatic float valves for cattle, where several can drink at once, but I was thinking this would work good for the goats. Would there be any issues with say 30 goats on this type of setup?

Yes, we use an automatic bowl type waterer for our goats.

A few considerations that I'm sure you've already thought of..

The waterer needs to be in an indefensible, unused area of the pen.

Some of them are so stupid that if they don't see you "fill it" with a bucket, they won't drink. (this happens with our older ones)

I'm sorry if I sound biased against the goats, But I am, they take up valuable tractor space in the barn. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
