Watering lawn in a remote location?

I have hundreds of feet of various garden hose. Most of it bought for ten bucks for 50 or 100 feet at the RESTORE, mostly returns from Home Depot. It is very hit and miss though. Also a hassle to clean, blow out and put away so much hose for the winter.

Ok - I can see you watering remotely with a system very similar to what my rancher neighbor uses to water his cows - extremely remotely.

12 volt pump - large water storage container - solar panel to charge 12 V battery. Simple high/low float in water storage container. 12 V pump pull water out of your pond into storage container. Depending on available pressure out of storage container - either sprinklers or soaker hoses. Hi/Lo float will turn pump on/off. Simple timer in system to set watering schedule.

He has two of these units - they run from April thru October.

Watering new grass is such a temporary undertaking. Not something most of us want to devote too much time, energy and money towards.

there's a big difference in scale from watering cows to watering a lawn.. it would have to run at least an hour continuously and have enough flow. you'd need large pump, a large bank of batteries, and large solar panels for that!.. even a 1 hp. pump would draw 750 watts. and the solar panels would have to be at least twice that wattage to work under a cloudy sky..

I still haven't seen the OP post the lawn size, by now he hopefully has found a useful solution. For reference grass and gardens need about 1 inch of water per week, which translates into 62 gallons of water per 100 sq ft.

I think an inch of water is 27,000 gallons per acre. He's not in an arid climate so if he prepped a proper seedbed in late August, grass would grow on it's own. I do a number of areas like this a year and never had one fail.

The problem is YOU never can tell in most of the US. Here in Virginia we historically would have gotten about 0.84 (0.12"/day) inches of rain in the last week. We got NONE. Last year I had to seed a section in Mississippi, got 2 weeks of dry weather. There it historically averages 0.15"/day.

Mother nature is sometimes a female dog.

I'd get 50' sections of garden hose a splitter and 3 sprinklers. From Sears a decent 50' run is only $10.48 Welcome to Sears.com - Sears

I would just get the 100-125 sections of hose and hook them together if it is only for 5-600 feet. 1" black poly would work well but storage after the fact could be problematic.

There will be pressure drop but you shouldn't need much pressure anyway. That would be much easier than buying a tote and pumping from your pond, although i pump from a pond using a small generator and a 110v house sump pump. I pump into totes and carry a couple hundred foot for our garden.

I have about 8,000 sq ft at the moment to reseed. Across a 200 foot distance. Then around 300 feet from there to the house. That distance seems a little short - I'm going by the Auditors measuring tools online. I'll have to take my wheel out and measure it up.
