Another vote for Worktunes. I love mine; I plug in my phone, set it to play music, and still don't miss a call.

Several threads on this, seems like nothing new this year.
Since the early '80's I've been using good pairs of "shooting muffs" with 29 dB suppression with a pair of ear buds stuck into the muffs, wedged between the insulation and the shell. I've now transitioned to primarily BT buds.

This lets me use inexpensive buds (hey there is a LOT of noise) great hearing protection and easy "swappability" between devices (my sony Walkman died :( ).

I also picked up a DeWalt 20V Max BT speaker to put on the tractor when I'm working around the tractor in the woods with the engine off, it's not waterproof but then I tend not to work in the rain.

If you want a waterproof, not in the ear solution look to BT "shower speakers".

I have two of these Amazon.com: JHD91 Heavy Duty MINI Waterproof AM/FM/WB Radio: Automotive

One came from the factory in my Deere 333E and the other one I bought and added to my IHI IC-45 crawler. They work great. No complaints and they have an input jack to hook your phone to so you can stream music. Mine are both in cabs so I can't comment on the actual waterproofness of them but they are very well made.

I have two of the Tractor Supply/Rural King fender mount radios on my open station tractors. I used the radio/speakers that came with them for many years, but have had to change the radios a couple of times over the course of 15 years. I usually just buy a $20 deck off of Amazon (Wal-Mart has some now that seem to work well, too). The enclosures themselves seem to be weatherproof - I've never replaced the speakers. I've even accidentally left the radios in the open position overnight when it has rained and they have functioned the following day. However, as mentioned, I have had to replace them a couple of time, but I suspect that is just as much age/vibration as it is exposure to an occasional shower.

I'm not going to argue that noise-canceling headphones are better in terms of hearing protection. I wear ones like those mentioned when on a vehicle (mower, bulldozer) that is either very loud or doesn't have a radio. I get my hearing tested every year at my workplace and have had no appreciable decline in 20 years, and I average about 300 hours per year on my tractor (bushhogging, mowing/baling hay, etc.). My personal experience has shown me that the sound level is acceptable - your mileage my vary.

One huge advantage (to me) of having the radio mounted on my tractor is that it allows me to use my tractor as a portable jukebox. When working on the farm, I will often use the tractor as a carry-all (as do many others) and when I'm working on the barn, fencing, working on other vehicles, etc., I can leave the radio on and listen without having to wear earbuds or headphones.

I also have a Sirius satellite receiver mounted on my ROPS bar that feeds to my radio. This allows me to mount my portable Sirius receiver on my tractor and listen to satellite radio pretty much anywhere on the farm. I love to listen to college and NFL football games in the fall while I work. I've got the receiver dock in a small plastic tool box that is clamped the ROPS upright, with a couple of holes in the bottom to allow power and data connections to pass through. This has worked for me for about 7 or 8 years and I love my satellite radio.

Good luck with whatever you choose. Take care.

I have two of these on my fenders, and found the Jensen too weak to power them, so I got a 50x2 amp cheap on clearance from Best Buy and now have as much sound as I want.

I mainly use my bluetooth worktunes, but the stereo is handy driving on public roads where ear muffs aren't adviseable.

I like this idea.

I get the ear buds that people talk about. I was wanting a open radio because I will be able to blare music when I am working near the tractor. I typically just stream music but I live in a cell phone dead zone so I will need to tune into the FM radio. I don't have my phone loaded with downloaded music.

When I'm rolling the 4 mile round trip on public roads to launch/extract boats from the lake, I can't have ear pro on (gotta be able to hear the Mrs. scream if something goes south on the trailers), but I too wanted a mobile boombox for when we have campfires, or I'm doing mundane stuff rather than actually working the machine.

For instance, last night while rebuilding a pto clutch and slip shafts; I kept hitting the worktunes on the gearbox when reassembling it. So I just fired up the radio on the tractor.

Had I gotten the BT worktunes first, I probably wouldn't have the tractor stereo. Since I have it, I do use it from time to time. I really like my worktunes.
