Bird, One thing I forgot to say was that we put the New matress on the old box springs. (Gee, maybe that's why the grand kids get so much bounce)............

What they ship in place of the box springs is basicly a box with a board.

As far as the old matress, call Goodwill or Salvation Army. They haul it off and it's tax deductable............. Also that way you can go buy it back if you want the old one. Good luck, we sleep well..................

I'm not sure that, as we age, we can ever regain the comfort we used to have.

Yeah, seems to be the case, or at least so the doctors tell us. Reminds me of the story of 90 year old Mr. Jones who went to the doctor complaining of pain in his left knee. When the doctor couldn't find any problem, he told Mr. Jones that as we get older we have to expect a few aches and pains. And Mr. Jones told him, "Doctor, my right knee's 90 years old, too, and it doesn't hurt."

Bird -- There are two things I never buy sight unseen: shoes and mattresses. I've just gotta be able to poke and prod and try them out before I buy...because nothing can make you more miserable in life than ill-fitting footware and a bed you can't sleep on.

Pete, I absolutely agree, and I can tell you there's no way I'd be ordering this bed if it weren't for the 30 day free trial and 60 day same as cash deal; not to mention a $200 "special Limited Time Offer" (that may or may not be a regular thing)/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. I have plenty of room to store our existing bed (and the boxes for the new one) for the 30 days (it actually appears to be in quite good condition), and if we decide to keep the new bed, I've got a pickup truck and know the Salvation Army will be glad to get the old one./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif So, I'll gamble the UPS shipping charges.

Bird,
Select Comfort is the best one out there and yes they do work just like they say and are a dream to sleep on. Over the years I have tryed quite a few. My wife has a bad back and we were always looking for something for her. I researched all of them out there. We probably tryed 15 different beds.

The thing that I like about the Select Comfort's is that you have a 30 day money back guarantee that is real. You don't like you send it back. Shipping is less than $75 as it's shipped in three different boxes.

If you do get one get separate controls for you and your wife. The pillowtop is also very nice if you sleep on your side at all.

The quality is very good as well and they have a 25 year guarantee on them too. If you have anymore questions on them please let me know.

Bird,
My wife is 5'2 and 110 lbs. and she assembled it in about an hour and a half by herself.

Thanks, Richard, and yes, I ordered the separate digital controls and pillow top. I think they're especially overpriced on their foundation (you could lay plywood on your old box springs and would work as well; just maybe not look as good), but I ordered their foundation, too. Going for the whole top of the line package to see how well we like it. But their guarantee is now 20 years instead of 25 (and they've only been around for 15 years/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif).

HEY!! What are you implying... I resemble that remark! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Its not really hard, it just takes a few min. rolling things around and sorting parts to get started. They do recommend that you NOT unpack ALL the boxes at first. Do it in the order they recommend. Was it a single or a twin size your wife set up? We assembled the first half of the king in about 30 min. and the second half in about 15. If the dogs had not helped we could have done it faster /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

The lady told me this queen sized bed will come in 4 boxes and the instructions are in box #1, so I assume they'll have a number on each one./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif The thing that surprised me was that she said it would be here "in about 2 weeks." Now that's all right, but I would have thought that they would have plenty of them made and in stock ready to ship since they claim 2 million people are sleeping on them. But maybe with their TV advertising, they're selling them pretty fast. I also asked about an e-mail notification and UPS tracking number when it's shipped and she said she could do that, so I guess I'll see how long it takes.

Hawkflyer,
I'm sorry I didn't mean to imply anything bad. I just was wanted Bird to know that it was really pretty easy to put together and if he had to he could do it by himself. Our bed is a king.

You are correct the instructions are in box 1 and they are really pretty good. All of the parts are numbered (well lettered), and it is really like a big jig-saw puzzel. We actually had a lot of fun putting ours togeather. I'm glad you took the advice to get the separate controls and wireless. We like ours. Only problem is after I take off my glasses I can't read the thing (age related problem)/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif. So once it is set, it is set. Once you play around with it a little you will find yourself setting it different depending on how tired you are when you go to bed.One tip- avoid the temptation to change your wifes settings. for some reason they take it badly./w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gifCowboydoc- None taken/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Hey, sounds like you wife is pretty good at assembling things, think she could figure out how to get the shredder blades out of my chipper?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Great Bed/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif - Have some fun /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif - Take it down to 0 /w3tcompact/icons/love.gif or take it up to 100 /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif and see if the Better half notices !!!! - HA - HA - HA .......

The Better Half sey's you should allow 2-3 months to get used to the new bed ...............

For what it's worth, friends of mine who own a mattress store and used to have a mattress manufacturing plant have told me that the number one thing to look for in a mattress is the number of springs you're getting in the same size mattress when you're comparing. Kind of makes sense to me. Good luck.

Bird, Hope you enjoy the new matress (work bench). Like I said earlier. We just put our new matress on top of the old box springs. We have had this thing since Paul Harvey was 8 years younger. Always look forward to resting on it.

You can always switch controls with the wife. Kind of our experience with the first electric blanket years ago. She was freezing and I was burning up. But that was back when we were young and only needed a small bed.

For some reason this air bed is always warm in the winter with no need for electric blankets. Glad of that.....

I just looked at the UPS tracking board and the new bed is scheduled for delivery Thursday, so we'll see what it's like.

Three years ago we purchased a Comfort-Aire inflatable matress (our old one was 15+ years old and worn out). Priced them all out and decided to try Comfort-Aire because they offered a Trial Period (either 30 or 90 days). Ordered it over the internet, Bought the middle of the line. Showed up 3 days later in 4 boxs. Had it assembled and inflated in 30 minutes (including hauling out the old matress). Absolutely great and have never had problems with leaks or tears.

Steve, if for some reason this Select Comfort doesn't work out, I'll have to check into the Comfort Aire. Thanks for the information.

It is now Friday and the bed was to be delivered on Thursday. Any updates? Assembled? Used?

Billy, the UPS truck arrived about 5:45 p.m. yesterday (usual time for our neighborhood) and it took about an hour and a half to get all 4 boxes in the house and get everything unpacked and assembled (might have been quicker if I hadn't had a wife and grandson "helping"; mostly by asking what's this and what's that for?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif). So we just slept on it for the first time last night and the jury's still out; it seemed fairly comfortable but I think I woke up and dozed off again about every hour or less; maybe just because it was a little different and not used to it, or maybe for other reasons. It actually doesn't feel that much different from any other mattress. I think we'll both do a little experimenting and adjusting of the air pressure for a few days before we come to any conclusions. In looking for this type of mattress, I found that more than one of the manufacturers mentioned their new and improved (and mostly quieter than everyone else's/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif) air pumps, or as Select Comfort calls it, their Deluxe Firmness Control System, and they may be right about that. Of course, I'm hard of hearing, but I had to put my hand on it to tell if it was running; couldn't hear it at all.
