Ways to increase boost on 4120, 4320, etc?

Anybody know if there is a way to tweak the HP of the 4120 or 4320? Seems that since the engines in that line are all identical in size, weight, etc Deere must have added more boost to get the power. I used a tuner on my F250 6.0 Diesel to add power, so I wasn't sure if there are any inexpensive tricks to adjust the boost on these tractors?

Its probably more likley that they use different injectors rather than changing the amount of boost.

More power requires more fuel, but more fuel requires more boost.

Probably just installing the injector nozzles off the higher powered units would be adequate and then adjusting the wastegate pop off to accomodate the increase fuel injection with more psi of air under load.

My understanding is that the parts are the same between two goups here.

4120/4320, and 4520/4720

So the lower model can easily be set up to the next level, and since I'm sure the upper model can also go up some, it can go even further.

As for boost, you'll have to see if there is a hose and a wastegate on the turbo. Then I'd suggest adding a gauge to see where it boosts under max load. From there a little tinkering could likely be done.

I'd say why bother? The frame size and weight of the tractor won't change, and unless you're doing something really tough with the tractor, I doubt you'll see much difference. After 100 pretty rough hours on my 4120, on our 40 acres I've yet to run out of power. I just ask the tractor to do what I need to do (loader work, tree hauling with the 4 in 1, bush hogging, etc.) and invariably I run out of traction or nerve before the the engine seems even close to running out of hp. I can imagine cutting a field of 3' high grass you'd get a little more speed with the extra hp, but it my case it's not often I'll be doing that.

I'll see if there's one on the lot we are driving by and have a look-see. The Powertech looks pretty compact in design with maybe a hidden intake manifold incorporated in the valve cover???

If there is a hose coming from the compressor (hair dryer) to a mechanical plunger/canister this is a wastegate. If not, you'll have to check turbo part numbers from 4120 to 4720 and see if there is a difference.

More fuel will creat more drive and more boost all by itself. How much fuel it can stand will be dependeant on how much smoke it now makes under heavy load which I doubt is much at all...

You're right - the intake is hidden with the rocker arm covers. From Deere's site:

OK, here's what I observed. No wastegate. Model # S1B S031 I may have a 1/I or S/5 error as it was cold and windy. This turbo was on a 4520 so let's see what model # the 4120 has...
