we are a dying breed

It was a small skunk and the cage was big enough for a big racoon to be caught.

Even though this property is in the city of Oakland, with sidewalks and streetlights... seeing deer grazing on lawns, racoons, skunks, grey and red foxes, 20 to 30 mature turkeys, possums, etc is a daily occurrence.

The bucks are fine specimens... as healthy as can be... up to 4 points and just about fearless... I can walk down my tractor trail and get up to about a car length away and the bucks will just meander away in no hurry...

They have taken a toll on just about every sapling I've planted!

Actually they can't spray in a cage (unless it's a really big one) because they need to go up on their front legs to release a dose.

From experience I can tell you that's not the case! I don't know what you define as a really big one, but the average sized skunk that was caught in a medium? (~8"X8") cage was able to spray and in the direction of me using a long pole!

That's one of those things which I've always heard was the case... a quick search shows that I was mistaken. (I sure am glad that I didn't find out the hard way)
