Today's local news contains a story that the planned new 13,000 square foot fire station near Okemos, Michigan can begin groundbreaking in July. A circuit court judge denied a temporary restraining order against the township, one that had been filed for homeowners in a condo development. According to the story, the condo owners assert that a fire station near their homes will, quote: "Hamper their QUALITY OF LIFE (emphasis added here) and reduce their property values...."

I personally find that reasoning absurd...why would any logical person object to having firefighters and EMT's nearby? If my township chose to build a new fire station next door to me, I would welcome such a project.

Any comments? Thanks.

I imagine the noise factor would be it for me.

We have a Firestation about 4 blocks from us, with the trucks and ambulances passing our road two blocks away. Doesn't bother me at all.

I hear them 2-4 times a day. In fact, I get a kick out of our dog who has to howl when she hears the siren.

All and all, it's rather comforting knowing the response time is only a couple of minutes. I welcome them as a "neighbor".

Those are the same type of folks that would turn around and sue if response times were too long.

Neighbours like that, I don't need.

Our fire station is about 4 -5 blocks away. We hear them every time they go out. I don't mind because ,I know my son is earning my tax dollars (that pay him) on every run:D

I would imagine it could annoying to some folks that live real close. However, it would be comforting to know they were that close if needed.

IIRC, our homeowner's insurance is higher because we're so far from the nearest (rural, all-volunteer) fire station. A compromise I'm happy to make for living out in the boonies with no close neighbors.

If I lived in a rabbit warren, apartment building or condo (all pretty much the same thing IMO) I'd be happy the first responders were so close since there's no control of what's going on in the next unit at any given time.

Well...since I am deaf, the noise wouldn't bother me, and because my last name is Burns...you figure out why I would welcome a fire station next door...
