Wednesday night, my wife and I are watching a show on Discovery called the Foods that Built America. During a part about Kellogg's and how they invented Granola and then Flake cereal, I told my wife that it would be funny if I started getting adds on FB about Kellogg's cereal. Neither of us have bought or eaten cereal in decades. I forgot about it yesterday, but I was only on the computer for a little bit. This morning, I'm on FB and all of a sudden, a HUGE add appears for Kellogg's Raisin Bran Toasted Oats cereal!!!!! I just about fell out of my seat and I had to get my wife over to see it for herself.

We have Alexa. She is spying on us!!!!!

1 word, Snowden. Made in 2016 but it was long before that FB uploaded every members contacts on whatever device connected to that "free" app, we went from attempts of privacy in our history to none when "the war on terror" began in my humble opinion!

Nobody cares what you do. Until you PO a neighbor or political opponent or somebody and they tell a 3-letter agency you're a spy for a foreign nation. Then suddenly all that information about your elementary school grades and your shoe size as well a where you went out of country 20 years ago, gets dumped on some analyst's desk to see if they can build a case supporting the allegation, and your elderly (now) kindergarden teacher has to do an FBI interview about you.

It helps to be the one neighbor everyone relies on for tractor work, or the one they're all afraid of.

It's so often just a matter of luck that you have good neighbors. I've always been lucky there.

I used to do pre-award audits of prospective specialty contractors and new proposed subcontractors, before the award of large public works contracts. This was to verify that they were financially capable, and in the case of specialists, to verify experience. You would be amazed how much public information was out there 20 years ago, before I retired. Today there would be far more to find.

One of my favorite reports: An archaeologist was need to evaluate unexpected Native American artifacts that the project uncovered. The most qualified individual proposed an outrageous hourly rate. I finally got out of her that the overhead rate she claimed was based on funding her entire retirement annuity in a single recent year and wasn't her ongoing historic average rate. I told her I arbitrarily used the Governor's salary as the comparable for her maximum allowable hourly rate, appeal it if you don't like it. Silence, she signed the contract. A few months later she contacted me and asked how to get on the minority and women-owned business call list. She said she called me because I was the only person she had dealt with in government that made sense.

The USPS by a loophole in 2006 legislation has been saddled with funding the retirement of future employees until 2050. (some that haven't even been hired yet )

If you want to know why the USPS hasn't been 'profitable' since then there's your elephant in the room. Arguments to privatize it don't mention that those specifics would be eliminated by the dissolution of Union contracts thereupon and reducing wages and benefits for employees.

Primary example of "it's all about the money" and who might get a shot at it by political fovor to go there. (maybe not now)

btw, if you drive in the right lane, stop at red lights, appreciate garbage pickup or recycling, dial 911, send your kids to public schools, collect Soc Sec or pension, appreciate whatever LEO your community provides, or wear shirt and shoes in a resturant you've been living with 'socialism' already. It's not the end of the World or we'd all move to another Country.
