Glenn, that corn is coming along well. My wife's grandfather was originally a stone cutter from Georgia, then moved his family to Bedford Indiana to work in the limestone industry there. Consequently, when I got married, my wife introduced me to some wonderful southern garden staples such as crowder peas, collard greens, and okra. Hearing you talk about them, makes me hungry. I've almost lost my current garden to weeds because of the constant rain. We are on clay, and it was so wet I couldn't even walk in there. Here's a row of weeds sandwiched by beans and tomato cages. I am going to try tilling or mowing the weeds down before the next rain...expected tomorrow evening.

One bright spot... your beans and tomatoes are easy to see. We had another 3.5" of rain last night with 50% chances tonight, about that for the next two days, and 30 or so the rest of the coming week. Butterbeans just don't tolerate too much water and I'm about ready to just till mine in if it ever dries out. The only thing that saved me was a day last week when it got dry enough to run the tiller through the middles of the butterbeans and okra. The field corn will do OK I think. The ears aren't quite mature enough to pull yet, but should be in two or three days. The sweet corn (merit) hasn't started silking yet and too much more water might cause it to yellow up and die. Need a week or so of SUNSHINE. Mid July I'll be trying to dance up a rain!
