Wear your seat belts.

I remember back when no one wore them now it doesn't seem right not to have them on.

I would prefer that there not be a law requiring you to wear your seat belts.
Said law to also read that neither the government, nor the insurance agencies be required to pay for any medical care, disability care, or unemployment insurance incurred by the injured who don't wear them.

Of course I feel the same way about drunk or distracted drivers.

I do agree with requiring kids to wear seat belts.

And yes, I do always buckle up. But that's my decision, and I don't particularly care to have the nanny state wasting cops enforcing what should be a survival of the most intelligent contest.

While in the fire service for 32 years, I worked MANY accidents. Never saw where the use of a seat belt killed anyone. What did amaze me though, was how many people would want an $800.00 ambulance ride to the emergency room where they would want to use the phone to call a lawyer because they received "belt rash" on the shoulder and waist. I always thought, if they had seen some of the things I had, they would be sending their thanks to the car manufacturer, instead of trying to sue them and anyone else involved in the "accident".

Now don't get me wrong here because I'm for seat belts but just answering your statement about seat belts. A few years ago in a little Hamlet about two miles from my home there was an accident where this young man for what ever reason went off the road that snaked along this creek. Car ended upside down in creek , young man could not un- latch his seatbelt and the cause of death was drowning, go figure, I know they save more life's then they take, just a different side of story.

I have a coleague at work who went to the ditch while driving at low speed on icy road. He didn't wear seat belts, got thrown from the seat, broke his back and is on a wheel chair for past ten years. If you aks him he will tell you that if he had his seat belt on he wouldn't have even a scratch.

The guy this post was originally about has recovered enough that he can farm again. He has no health insurance while his hospital bill is aparently quite high. He did some combining (where the guy with big combine didn't want to go) for me so we upped the bill somewhat to help.
