fling the mask off in my sleep

Apparently I did that last night for the first time and don't know how it was possible. But about 2 hours after I went to bed, I woke up without the mask on, so I put it back on, and didn't wake up again for about 6 hours, but when I did, I still had it on.

Been on a cpap for 10 years! Sister in law friends husband died from not using like dr. wanted him to. Best thing I done/ best sleep once you get used to the hose!

Every now and then I wake up with mine off. I just put it back on. Its also nice, when the power goes off at night you will be the first to know!

I've had one for years too. For a while I didn't use it (stubborn or just stupid) and I woke up all night literally choking myself awake. Now I use it every night with the nose pillows and I am gone to la-la land. I get some crazy dreams now that I am actually sleeping.

didn't go with the mask ( too severe a case ) in 93 ..
they operated instead ( cored the throat and removed the uvula , same operation as a throat cancer patient )
removed "material" , scar tissue holds it open now.

I had a traditional CPAP machine that had the constant pressure. Hated it. Tried to use it for almost a year and gave up. I could not get the mask to seal with the amount of pressure they said I needed. A couple of years later I decided to try again and got an APAP instead. It starts off with low pressure and then senses when you need more and makes the adjustment automatically. I have used it all night, every night since I got it. WOW! Lots of CPAPers here. All with good stories to boot. I'm impressed!

I even use my machine when having a nap of an hour or so. I doubt that I could live with out having the machine now that I am used to it. Never wake up tired like I used to. No more dry night throat from snoring etc. Machine does whistle a little now and then when the nasal pillows get moved.
To be honest, I thought it was a bit of a joke until I actually got my machine and experienced the benefits of it.
If anyone is told to get a CPAP machine and hasn't, get it - you will get much better sleep and be better for it. It isn't just us old farts that need the CPAP machines - quite a few people in their 30's and 40's are now being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea.

I, too, had no idea there were so many people using CPAP machines. I have a nephew who has one, but I haven't heard from him lately, so I don't know how he likes it. And I have a son-in-law who says he's had one for about 6 years and probably used it 6 months, but he's started using it more regularly lately because his snoring was keeping everyone else in the house awake.:laughing:

My wife made me go to the doctor as she was sure I had sleep apnea, as I snore, snort and sometimes wake myself up. If I'm snoring, the wife will wake me up to stop me, but then if I wasn't snoring, she'd poke me to make sure I wasn't dead! I was getting little sleep. So off to the sleep study, wires, hose in the nose, etc... I thought it was the worst night of sleep I had in years. The next morning the technician said I was 90% efficient in my sleep with 100% oxygen saturation.... "Buddy, you just snore alot!" was what he said. So we got my wife some earplugs. :laughing:
