Wearing a sleep apnea mask?

Just got home from the sleep center for fitting and adjusting the machine. She told me they start at a pressure of 6 and go up to 20, but she stopped at 10 for me. I feel that I slept well, but the mask was a bit uncomfortable. It was too tight under my nose, and I think that can be adjusted easily. I did have to get up once to go pee, and that is a lot more difficult with the mask, but I had all the wires hooked up to me too.

She said I should get my machine in about a week...The doctor has to review my results from last night and then send it to the medical supply company.

And, I got my bill from the sleep center for what the insurance doesn't pay, which is just over $1000

Mine was at 14 for years, had another study done 3 years ago, dropped to 11. I buy my masks online, cheaper for me than trying to go through insurance.

My wife retired as an RRT at a DME supply warehouse, since then I have been getting my supplies from Drug/DME supply in town about 20 miles away. The local store knows absolutely nothing about CPAP supplies so it was usually two trips to town to get what I order. About two months ago I decided to try an online sit, they take care of all the paperwork and call for any reorders which is convenient since it comes to the house. The first order was delivered with hoses and filters, and six of the gell masks, but no chinstrap. I think the gell masks are a Chinese knock off as they don't seal nearly as well as my original and when I called them to get a chinstrap, they were apologetic and said they'd send it right out. The strap showed up in about three days, but nothing like the one I ordered, so back to town and deal with the dummys. I won't order anything else from Ionmysleep.

Since I have Medicare and the AARP (United HealthCare) Plan F, I haven't paid anything out of pocket yet (but I pay plenty for that Plan F supplement). I got my CPAP machine from Rhema Medical in Denton, but then the supplies come from Rotech Healthcare in Florida. So far, everything has come via USPS promptly, as ordered. However . . . they've sent me the same bill every month now for 6 months for $72.97. Each month, I call them and each month I get a different story. They only thing they agree on is that I don't owe them anything and nothing is past due. The first month the lady said the bill was sent in error and to disregard it. This past month, the lady I got on the phone said they are waiting for my "secondary insurance to pay."

And the CPAP device (I tend to call it a CPAP machine) is supposedly rented for 13 months with Medicare and the supplement paying the rent, after which it will be paid for and I'll own it.

That's the deal with my insurance too, rent for a year, then own it. But to qualify, I had to prove I used it at least 4 hours per night 75% of the time for the first 3 months by turning the SD card it recorded my usage on.

FWIW, I either just say "my C-Pap" or "the C-Pap machine".

Yeah, mine came with the SD card AND an attached modem that sent data to Rhema Medical Supply, who in turn sent a report to my primary doctor. However, mine was only required for one month instead of 3. The SD card is still in the machine, but I returned the modem after one month.

For Vets that get their units from the VA, at least from the Tennessee Valley VA, end up sending their SD card back after 30 days. For what reason I have no idea. Perhaps just to see if they are using it and then they ask for it back??? At any rate, I paid for my unit with 9 years of service. Two years of that in the hospital. lol...perhaps earning my CPAP???? God bless........Dennis

Apologies for not acknowledging the replies to my question at #176 but this is the first time I have had a chance to log in to TBN since then. I was rather busy with various business things and the olive harvest began two weeks earlier than previous years which left me needing a lot of "catch up" tasks that I had thought would be done when the days were longer. Just another 10 days though and they begin to lengthen again.
