Do any of you know an internet site where you can access climatalogical data for various regions of the country? When the weather man on TV says we are xx inches behind or ahead of our normal rainfall, where is he getting his data.

I've been recording rainfall amounts at my place for about a year, but can't find records of what's normal rainfall for any given month of the year.

BTW, I understand that my region of the gulf south gets an average of 60 inches a year - - so far, I've recorded less than 20 inches. Here we are almost half through the year & we don't have a third of our normal rainfall. Of course, I don't know how much of that 60 inches normally falls by this time of year.

Thanks for your help.

Boy are you lucky - 20 inches already! We should have had 15 inches by now but we have only had 5 and the rainest part of the year is gone. All we have to hope for now is that there will several tropical storms in the Gulf this summer to bring us some rain. The crops and aquafers around here will be gone for this year if we don't get a lot of steady rain soon. I am worried about water for my cattle.

You should email or call one of your local TV stations to find out who keeps the records for your area. They probably have the rainfall normals on their web site also.

Thanks guys -- I'll check out those leads. I've used both accuweather & intellecast, but just for radar info.

I know 20 inches may sound like a lot & it is, compared to Central Texas. I used to live in Coryell Co. & remember what the landscape looks like by August - - just browns & tans. However, this is the gulf south & we average 60" a year & this appears to be another of a string of dry years. Last year started out this way - - then, about this time last June, TS Allison came for a visit. I'm sure not asking for that again. I'd settle for my normal 'afternoon & evening scattered thundershower'.
