Years ago when I was active as a general aviation pilot, I learned that during the heat of summer, 30% chance of rain is the standard forecast. Everyday they would predict that.
On days when it might actually rain, the probability was a little higher.

Ragkar,

Around here, we get that in the spring. Lots of 20-30% chance of rain forecasts. That's sort of the "baseline" level, and makes it kindof difficult to make the call for that first cutting. I've learned to worry slightly at 30%, really pay attention at 40%, and get ready to be hit at 50%.

Once it hits summer, and if we get those super-highs that park over the top of the state, all the weather stays north of us (kinda like it's done the last two weeks, although the high has been breaking down the last couple of days) and we get absolute-0% forecasts. As in, there is no way it's gonna rain, and it stays that way for weeks.

Chet.

I posted this link recently in Rural Living but will do so again b/c Ive found it very helpful:
UK Agricultural Weather Center
I think this gives a much more complete pic of whats going to happen than TV weather reports. Just living in an area and observing the weather form yr to yr is really valuable too. Im going to start keeping a weather journal as well.

Good site! I have been using NWS but that UK site allows you to narrow it all the way down to your own county. Pretty slick. I am gonna cut this evening or in the morning, to heck with the rain.

so does the NWS .... go to: NWS Springfield, MO Homepage then click where you live. Also - try to remember -- we're in advertising not production. If you have a problem with the product you need to take that up directly with THE BOSS! (You reach his direct line from your knees);)
