I would like to purchase a weather vane for my new barn and am totally unfamiliar with them. My roof is steel with 1' overhangs. What would be the best style mounting bracket for that type building? I have had 100 mph winds up here. Also, once that thing is up there will I need to install lightning protection?? I assume it will be a lightning magnet as the highest point on a steel building.

Bayrat,

There are special weathervane bracket housings that are made to hold the weathervane in place either on a ridgecap or cupola. They're fastened in place with four bolts. See the attached link below. This is a place that makes all kinds of weathervanes. They are also a parts supplier. Contact them. Explain your situation to them and they can likely help you. They're located outside of Bar Harbor, Maine. You may also want to visit them if you can. Bar Harbor is a lovely place in the summer. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll get there today and check it out. Spent the day yesterday hauling a safe to the house with the car hauler I stored for my friend this winter. I do like /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif that trailer. I think it is a bit large for my needs though.

Ahhhhhhh....safes, is it. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Yep, I have one of those things, they're a back breaker, aren't they. This is something the JD4710 that I'll soon be purchasing could handle with ease. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Forgot to mention Bayrat that just down the road in Bar Harbor from the other establishment I recommended is another weathervane business. I forget their name but we visited them last summer. They had beautiful weathervanes, including the mounting bracket that you want. But, they didn't sell parts, just complete packages. The other place I recommended does sell the parts.

Thanks Bob. They certainly run the gambit on price don't they?

Yep, they sure do. But, if you visit the shop, you'll be amazed at the beautiful stuff they make. This is no junk weathervane shop. This is a guy who's well skilled in metalsmithing, copper, iron, and the like. I want to have my own weathervane repaired (it was hit my lightning and fell down off my barn's cupola) but this fella's 9 hours away. I was hoping to locate someone just as skilled who's much closer to me. If I can't find one by this summer, maybe we'll take another trip to Bar Harbor and make it another vacation. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
