A couple of TBN members are working with me on www.harveylacey.com It's already set up and running thanks to Leo. And Ron here in norte tejas is close and willing to help. Leo's got it started but we're wanting space so that we can give each gate it's own story. Sorry, but my gates all have a story. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The same goes for each attachment, sculpture, etc.

What I'm looking or is a web host that can carry tons of pictures for all of my interests.

I'd also like to have some sections for explanations and directions for do it yourself projects. Cowboydoc wants a parts list and some design ideas for the portable loafiing shed. That would make a great section.

The other day I got a call from a potential customer that got my name out of the yellow pages. What piqued his interest was the fact that I'm an individual. He saw savings and helping out a local.

Just after he thanked me after I explained that he wouldn't be saving money going with me I offered that I figured I offered him a much better product for those additional bucks. I directed him to a photo site and TBN to get some ideas of my capabilities.

He's pretty sure he wants to go with me now.

It would be much easier to send him to harveylacey.com than photos.yahoo.com/wroughtnharv and TBN/photos/projects/do it yourself/ etc. It would be better to have everything on one site so that no matter what I've done that interests them they can have an easy to navigate portal.

While I'm not near the sharpest cracker in the package I do have two good gurus that can correct any mistakes I make. What I'd like is some feedback on a good web host that would give us the best service for a reasonable fee.

Right now I'm looking at www.powweb.com and their $7.77 a month deal for 1000meg. Does anyone have any experience with them?

So if you have any experience and or information on a good webhost please share.

thanks in advance, harv

PS we thought about using wroughtn harv but most folks hear that and want to spell it like it's a personality statement rather than a work preference. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why don't you try out Canaca.com. I use them for my site hosting.

I have the Gold Package, but they offer a Bronze Package which includes:

• 5 GB of Web Space
• 20GB Bandwidth
• Ensim Control Panel
• No Setup Fee
• 5000 Pop3 Accounts
• Webmail
• FTP Access
• 5 Subdomains (http://something.yourdomain.com)
• Cgi, PHP, perl, etc.
• Front page Support
• $10 Per Year Domain Registration
• 30 Day Money Back Guarantee

It is $3.95/month (if you sign up for 2 years), $4.95 for 1 year.

I have been completely satisfied.

Here's what works for me:

I have maintained a family website at abac.com for three years now. Abac's reliability etc is professional grade. See: http://abac.com

Recently I found another large webspace provider that was expanding from Europe into the US. I got a free introductory account. That's where my TBN sig photos are hosted. See: http://1and1.com

I like 1&1's account setup software better than abac's and I think they include better website creation tools with the least expensive accounts. Both 1&1 and abac are first class in terms of uptime and reliability. I think you would be pleased with either one.

I've used Hostway for several years for the 2 web sites I support. No complaints.

You can get a lot of pictures in even a small amount of space if you always reduce the pictures to 640 x 480 and use a fair amount of jpeg compression. Never post pictures directly from a camera. This applies to any other graphics or photos you use.

I don't have any opinion about powweb....no experience. I can recommend modhost I have my web sites with them, and the price is great, and I have never had a problem. Price looks to be about the same as powweb, so if you have a good referral for them, it's probably a wash.

I have been using these guys for the last year and a half. The reliability of the site has been fantastic.

Thanks Dave. I went with modhost and according to Leo it's finer'n frog hair, can't get much finer'n that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd like to see the site full of do it yourself ideas and projects, and not all of them mine.

There's so much to do, can be done, should be done, and I want to be part of all of it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're welcome Harv. One of the things I like best about modhost is the ability to host multiple domains all under one account. I think they are set up for re-selling, but it is perfect if a company/individual has multiple domains to keep track of. I don't think I have found a better deal than 20 domains for $14.95 month.

Who's Leo? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Modhost sounds very similar to my own hosting plan, page-zone. It's a multiple domain reseller account with Cpanel, Fantastico, unlimited Email, unlimited mysql databases, etc., like modhost. The only difference is that when I signed up, they only had a giant killer site, 2 GB storage, 10 GB bandwidth, up to 100 domains, and unlimited subdomains, for $24.95/month. I pay 6 months in advance which gets me a discount, $111.95 every 6 months. I've had it for over a year and it's never been down, and is very fast. I currently have 8 domains set up under it, although none are paying customers. One, for example, is a site for my daughter's high school band. If I had seen modhost at the time (or if it had even been around), I could have saved about $10 per month by going for the 20 domain level.

I use GoDaddy for my domain registration, .com as cheap as $6.95/year if you register for 10 years. In other words, 10 years for $70, what you used to pay for two years at register.com. I got in early and registered my name and my wife's names, and all the kids and grandkids names. That way, if one of us ever runs for president, we already have domains like JohnKerry.com. Costs me less than $50/year currently, but my daughter just announced she is pregnant.

I have a total of 10 domains registered for $70/year, nearly unlimited web sever for $224/year, and maintain two cable hookups and a cellular packet ISP at around $155/month, or $1860 per year, so my total internet costs are almost $2200 per year. And, that is considerably cheaper than just a couple of years ago. One of the cable ISP's will go away as soon as I sell my commercial property, and all of the ISP's will go away and be replaced by a high speed satellite hookup when we move to Okeechobee, at a projected cost of about $100 per month. No wonder the web is making money...

If I actually wanted to resell from my server, I could get $5/month from 90 smaller sites, or about $450/month, $5400/per year. That would cover my costs... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
