Well, I'm going to climb out on a limb and suggest that the two top laminated pieces could have been lag screwed from the top down onto the four posts to avoid using the metal connectors.

Another alternative would have been to lap joint the connections between the top pieces and the four posts, but that would have added several steps and increased the risk of messing up the nice top.

By the time they put flowers and decorations all over it, you won't even recognize it.

Eddie, I think everything's coming together fine. I have thought of something like this at our place too. My FIL has always dreamed of a nice Gazebo by the pond. I told him we'd have to screen it in if you wanted to have lights in it for night use. There are times of the year that our pond spawns enormous amounts of flying insects.

Nice craftsmanship Eddie. This is the kind of work they did in the 30's and 40's and didn't charge you an arm and a leg for. It was just kind of understood about pride and selfworth being attached to one's skills instead of what they teach today with giving everyone a trophy. If you weren't gonna put a light in the cupola, I was coming over to Tyler and do that for you as it is just begging for some type of illumination. If you have any spare time, get a book on old light houses. I think you would find it very interesting how they projected low wattage lights (in some cases an oil lamp) to be seen for quite a distance even in fog. Again, great job. I wonder if we made Divorce pavillions if people going thru such would be nicer to one another. Hmm, just another one of my business ideas that probably wouldn't catch on.

They already make divorce pavillions. They're called courthouses.

Na, the one's I have in mind would be outside like Eddies where maybe a strong cross wind would blow the lawyers away.

Beautiful craftsmanship. I'd love to have something like that by the pond, but it looks like lots of $$$.

In these cases, lawyers are more like vultures picking over the remains of what used to be alive. Best way is to starve them by keeping marriages healthy. I was reminded this morning to tell my wife that I love her and I never want to take her for granted.

Eddie,

Your work looks very nice. That is the job that a carpenter likes to get even if they don't make a lot of money. It can be showcase what you can do.

When I was a CPA working for a big CPA firm, one of our clients was an orphanage/school endowed by a trust established by a wealthy industrialist who loved children but didn't have any of his own. The trust generated more income than the orphanage/school could possibly use. I was talking to the contractor who often built buildings that were needed and he said he loved to work there because since cost was never an issue, he was never asked to take "shortcuts" and could build gorgeous buildings.

Beautiful work Eddie. Thanks for the ideas. My wife wants something like that out by our lake.
