Thanks guys. I was curious as to how the neighbors would respond. To my pleasant surprise, I found that many were not far removed from country life themselves. Many had stories of the farm Grandpa or even their parents had had as a child. All stated that they had been admiring the garden for the past few years, and a couple even shared their plans of trying their own hand at gardening. Which is great in my opinion. I find it sad that so few people know anything about where the food they eat comes from.
But the best part of all this was my daughter's response to her first dollar. She told her mom, "I can't believe it! My very first customer!" Then she came running back to the backyard to show me the dollar.
The financial lessons have begun. I did not make her place any of this in savings, but I told her that next time she would. However, I would not let her buy anything that would cost her all of the money she had earned. So she settled on an Easybake Oven. Now she's glad to have the remainder when I head to the grocery. She loves little treats.
