Hi guys,

I asked this question on a previous thread http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/chinese-tractors/92648-snow-storm-colorado-2.html
but it was probably lost since the main topic was different...my bad :p

So, here is the q again:
what is the weight distribution for the 254/284? Is the front or the rear heavier (with a loader)? Maybe our friends the dealers can give their expert opinion (Chip, Ronald).
I would like to know so I can have a better idea of how to properly load my 284 on a trailer without getting in trouble while going at 70mph on the hwy

In the previous thread some recomended to back it up and others to load it facing forward. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Well I don't know anything about the balance point, and don't have a loader on mine,a 254,,,but,,using a boom pole and chain fall, picked a 600 lb plus 5 ft tiller in crate off the back of a 4wd f150 pickup,,thats about 8 ft up or so to where I hooked onto tiller and boom pole sticks back,6 ft or so,,,front end did not come up,[lucky there, since I hadn't ever done that],,,so I would say,,the front end ain't light,,,and mow up some pretty steep hills with 5 ft hog,,fronts never came up,,,,now how lights the rear,,don't know,,,bet somebody has picked up some pretty heavy loads with fel,,maybe they will tell,,,thingy

We load frontward and have had no problem with tounge weight, the loader forces the tractor back some so maybe that compensates for the extra weight on the front of the tractor. have someone watch and when you hitch drops 1.5 inches or so you should have adequate tounge weight to avoid fishtailing, using a tandem axle trailer. backing on may make too much toung weight, but will sometimes be easier on some canopies. We have never had a problem with a jinma or KAMA canopy up to 70mph but others have.

Thanks for the tips Chip! I Really appreciate you take the time to participate in this forum :)
So you suggest using a tandem axle trailer? As you saw in the pictures, I have a single axle trailer but if necessary I can get a tandem trailer. Next year I will have to move the tractor more often (with a mower) so I want to make sure I won't be a road hazard ;)

BTW, do you sell tandem trailers? Unfortunately I am pretty far from you, but maybe if you are delivering a tractor over here we could figure something out?....

With the loader bucket off the ground there is more weight on the front wheels.

You always want proper tongue weight as mentioned and as a rule the trailer axles is what carrys the bulk of the load. Depending on what is hanging off the back of the tractor verses the trailers length sometimes determines how to load the trailer.[location on trailer]

I have a 16 foot utility trailer and a 26 foot gooseneck deck over trailer. 99% percent of the time the tractor is loaded faceing forward with or with out a FEL. I have never had a canopy problem.

A 16 foot trailer with two 3500 pound axles with brakes on both axles makes a nice fit for 254/284 with a mower attached. The mower will hang off the back of the trailer a little. Make sure the trailer has places to hook chains.

The tractor weight is biased toward the front because of the weight of the engine. The FEL just adds to it. As already mentioned, tongue weight is key. I believe the general recommendation is around 10% of total load with trailer. From my experience single axle trialers need to be closer to the guideline than dual axle, to prevent sway at highway speeds. I would think that your tractor and fel load is near the max for most single axle trailers. A dual axle with brakes would be recommended.

When I sold my first Jinma, the new owner loaded on a U-haul trailer rental where the forward wheels needed to be locked down to the front of the trailer. In the forward position it was way too much tongue weight. Even in the reversed mode, it was on the heavy side, but it wasn't a long trip and he could take it slow.

Thanks Chip, Ron, Thingy and John for all your valuable suggestions

I will follow Ron's advice and see if I can get a 16 footer for a reasonable price. Anybody selling one? Chip, Ron? Do you carry trailers?

We have some low cost trailer suppliers here, but NE texas has even more. I don't think I could save you enough to make it worth the trip, unless you could get something to haul back on it for someone (or yourself).

If you will be transporting your tractor with loader and brush mower you need at least 18 ft.

Nope, don't really have time to drive all the way down there. The only option would be if you are already sending something over this part of the country, and don't want to haul the trailer back home ;) Thanks though chip!
