Weight of L3901

Recently purchased another Kubota, a L3901. Has loaded tires, LA525, BH77 Backhoe. Any guess what weight might be? Have trailer that will handle 5000 lb load. Haven't put on trailer yet and need to move from NH to MA to work a job that BX23S won't handle.

Any help greatly appreciated. Dealer couldn't give me accurate guess.

Bare tractor. Well you didn't say 2 or 4 or hst.. BUT ASSume 4WD with hydro. 2778 lbs.

Loader.... Guess.. No specs for weight given on website. Should be in supplemental loader install manual. But Guessing 1200 lbs max
Backhoe 77... Guess No specs for weight given. Again just a guess.. about 1500 lbs.
Fluid. Guessing.. 15-19.5 so 30 gallons of something each tire. so about 272 for water each. or about 600 lbs approx depending on what is in them and this is the right tire.


2778 + 1200+1500+600= 6078 lbs... There I took a guess and your trailer is over grossed. best way it to drive it on a junkyard or other scale and find out.

Another source (Kubota Canada) says backhoe 77 bare weight 850 lbs. and buckets are from 64 to 104 lbs. so 954 lbs max.

So tractor 2778 (maybe) Loader and bucket 1000, Backhoe 954 and tires (maybe) 600 so 5332 lbs. Its your call.

I think you are pretty close but I bet the backhoe numbers don't include a subframe kit. Add about 250 lbs if you agree.

In any case, I think his trailer is a bit small if it is rated at just 5000

He said his trailer would handle a 5000 lb load. Estimates put the load at or over 6000 lbs. That's not close, it's overweight by an amount very likely to attract scrutiny on an out of state trip.

I don't want to take a chance. Sunbelt rentals has a 18ft trailer that will handle 6900lbs. $135 a day....or I tell the wife I need to buy a new trailer, hmmmm

I asked a simple question, someone suggesting their trailer will handle a certain weight and reality can be 2 different things. My ...guess... is that he has a 7000 lb trailer that weighs 2000 lbs which would put the trailer payload at 5000 plus the ~700 tongue weight. I would not tow that load on that trailer, but it’s why I asked the question.

I am willing to answer a question using the provided information as a basis for my conclusions. The OP said his trailer would handle 5000 lbs. How much of that 5000 lbs sits on the tires and how much sits on the coupler is unimportant to me. Putting something in the neighborhood of 6000 lbs on it will overload the trailer based on the owner's own description of the trailer's capacity.

No need to load the tires unless your plowing. Backhoe or heavy ballist is enough for loader. 3 pt ballast is 25% more effective vs loaded tires. If loader is quick attach put bucket in truck bed and drain tires. This puts you 900 pounds less.

If you didn’t take the backhoe it would be close to working but the whole package will be over 5,000.

What amazes me is that the dealer could not give you an accurate number on the weight of what he was selling you. I suspect he was able to provide you with an accurate dollar amount of the sale quite easily. :laughing:

Oh yeah they can get sales numbers without a problem. I just rented trailer. Gonna buy one in the spring if all goes as planned.

yes, they are in lbs. Taken from web sites of course. So they must be true
