heheh try not going 85-90 on I70 @ Kansas City. if you dont follow the flow of traffic it WILL get super ugly. posted iirc is either 55 or 65 depending on the part of the loop you are on. right hand lane tends to be 65-75 middle to left is 75-90+ and when rush hour hits it all goes with the hanbasket....

Running speeds in excess of the posted speed limits, pulling a single axle trailer with a decked out tractor on it, is asking for trouble. Can't say I haven't seen it, done it, and been lucky enough to get away with it, but the outcome of a single mistake by you, or anyone else, will make you wish you had never seen a trailer, much less with a tractor on it. Messes can be created in an instance, with disastorous results.
Drive where you can set the pace and don't get in a hurry trying to get there first.

I'm with Sandman2234 on this one. The last thing you want is to wreck that very nice tractor or get killed.

A lot of trailers have used passenger car tires on them because they are cheap, and it's wise to look at the load ratings on the sidewalls because passenger tires aren't as rated as much for loads as truck tires. I forget what the difference is, but I seem to recall that trailer tires are constructed differently than either passenger or truck tires.

There are some other safety issues discussed in the safety forum that are very worthwhile reading. Among them are the dangers of the loading/unloading process and securing that load so it doesn't come loose on you.

No doubt that trailer tires are what need to be on trailers. There is a reason why they are called "trailer" tires.

When it comes to securing the load, be sure that it's secured enough to keep the load on the trailer during an accident. If the load comes loose during a wreck, you're responsible for the damages. Makes me cringe when I see a trailer of mowers on the interstate and not a single one is tied down.

Guy pulled up next door yesterday with a diesel powered (90 hp) stump grinder (6x4) that had a dedicated trailer built for it. One pin in the front was all that was holding it on the trailer, and if he turns it over, nothing is holding it. I asked him about it, and he said "it won't go anywhere".
I just shook my head and walked away.

jax is right on, same goes for tire ratings. one thing no one has mentioned is know your route if at all possible! know your local idiocy it changes from county to county. I have seen my share of white nuckeld ready to puke sunday drivers, plenty eaten alive by the grand view triangle(bermuda triangle for cars). people from texas dont understand roads that dont have a full sholder i have seen one disapear down a gully due to habbit. Knowing your equipment better then your significant others curves will save your life. the same is true of knowing your route. knowing just over the hill is a spot where every idiout comes to a dead halt to watch the pretty collors. Knowing there is a a bike path that isnt on maps but make the tour de france look like a block party.

Ive had my car for about 10 years and I know it well what i can and cant do. I aslo know it will do things i wont expect. I have been in an accident in the car as well. wonderful periferal vision and reactions helped a good bit.

I have a single axle trailer rated at 2990 lbs. I pull my JD X485, with front bucket, mower deck, weights and rear blade and I am close to maximum. Trailer weighs about 1000 lbs. I pull only short distances 15 miles or less. I never exceed 55 m.p.h. I do not believe I would want to pull a load close to max. over long distance. If you are going to pull short distances and at moderate speeds you may be O.K.
